Bible in a Year...3,2,1...completed.

Hello, finally finished my bible in a year deal with Our Lord Your God. I ended in Jerimiah, 2 Timothy, Psalms 89 and Proverbs 26.

I learned a lot over the past year. Mostly, that people like to miss-quote the bible instead of really stating what's in it, which is amusing to me. Also, that when you tell people you are reading the bible in a year most people have a better idea for you and how you should be studying it instead of reading it. Which is also amusing to me. They just don't get that the only point was to read it not study it.

I end my year with a link to BibleGateway.com and a verse from Proverbs.

Proverbs 26:1
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,
honor is not fitting for a fool.

I may do a conclusionary post tomorrow. I have one written up. I haven't decided if I'll post it or not. If not, until the next deal with Our Lord Your God.

Grace be to you. Good day.

Adventure's of the Garden Goddess 2011...Fall...Part 2

Hello,
I was able to sneak in a Fall Gardening class with a local non-profit this October. It was really very informative and they went over what worked for the past season and recommendations for an improved harvest for next year. The picture is of the lovely fruit you can find in Oahu when I went to a local farmer's market while there.

here's the link to the non-profit organization in my area. I recommend you find something like this one in yours.

As for me, I went out and removed all the tiny pear tomatoes and Big Boy tomatoes off the vine and have them on my kitchen table waiting for them to turn. Otherwise they would have frozen. I have two huge reusable grocery bags half full of them. I should make a salsa with them and can it.

Ta, ta, and until next spring.
See ya,
The Garden Goddess

Bible in a Year...3 days to go.

Jeremiah 37:1 to 38:1-28
Jeremiah gets thrown in prison and then in an empty cistern for informing the people in power that they need to change their wicked ways. They are supposed to tear their clothes and put on sackcloth and repent. It doesn't happen. J gets to suffer for his prophesying.

1 Timothy 6:1-21
I have never read Timothy before and am surprised at how much I am enjoying reading it. Timothy encourages people to flee from worldly desires and live an upright life, ie, "fight the good fight." Oh, and stay away from gossiping. All good advice even for these times.

Psalm 89:38.52
a song praising the Lord.

Proverbs 25:26
Like a muddied spring or a polluted well
are the righteous who give way to the wicked.

Think about it...reminds me of people running the various governments and the general public letting them run rampant doing all kinds of wicked things---like passing laws that will bankrupt the government. We complain and yet do nothing about it. We "occupy," and yet most of those "occupying" have no clue as to the movements ideals, they just "occupy." Ah, well...all things work to the good, right? doesn't mean it has to feel good. I just wish it didn't feel so precarious.

Grace be to you. Good day.

Bible in a Year...4 days to go.

The following are the chapters I am in:

Jeremiah 35:1-36 and 36:1-32
Jeremiah is still warning the king to turn from his evil ways and all will be forgiven. The king refuses and provokes Our Lord Your God. As you can guess things don't end well for the king.

1 Timothy 5:1-25
I especially like 1 Timothy today, specifically 5:8 and 5:24,25. 1 Timothy 5 speaks to taking care of widows and your family. I like 5:8 as it reminds me that Mr. X will hopefully be delt a most severe blow for not taking care of his child by purposefully not working and not paying child support as the verse specifically states you should. Here's the verse:

1Tim 5:8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

I also like 1 Tim 5:24,25. Here they are:

24 The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them.
25 In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not obvious cannot remain hidden forever.

---makes you think, eh??

Psalm 89:14-37
This chapter seems to me to speak of Our Lord Your God's promises and praises God for keeping his word. Keep in mind if you do not keep your bargain with God then God will arrange a different promise for you. EEEK!

Proverbs 25
And you can always count on Proverbs. The following is verse 28 and it speaks of having self-control:

28 Like a city whose walls are broken through
is a person who lacks self-control.

It seems to me that people these days are very lacking in self-control and/or thought. It seems that people make their choices and be damned the consequences or who they may harm. Truly a shame.

Grace be to you, Good day.

Bible in a Year...5 days to go.

I really hope that Our Lord Your God finds grace with me to finish up a week late since I was vacationing.

Jeremiah is still confusing.
1 Timothy is what it is.
Psalms always enjoyable.
Proverbs thought provoking.

and of course here is Proverbs 25:24

Better to live on a corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

----hmmm, makes you think, eh???

Grace be to you. Good day.

thank you BibleGateway.com for the verse.

ALOHA!!!!!!...I've been on vacation.

Can you guess where??? I am certain the title gave it away. I had such fun. It was truly amazing! I stayed on Oahu for 5 days in Waikiki Beach area, and was able to explore most areas of the rest of the island. I had 3 items on my list: USS Arizona Memorial, golf in Turtle Bay, and a luau. My best friend's (BF)list: see the sun set on the beach each night, and snorkel. The BF hates salt water and believes it to be unnatural. She's funny.

The sunset idea was really a good one and we chose a different area on Waikiki Beach each night. I got some awesome pictures. Oh, Yeah.

I also had a very big surprise by falling in love. Snorkeling is my new love and it was a true surprise for me. It wasn't even on my list to try. My best friend wanted to do this. So we purchased our masks and snorkels and had a grand time at Hanauma Bay. It was actually terrifying at first. You feel as though the ocean is going to suck you in and never let you go. Once I got over this, I couldn't stop.

I even had a sea turtle swim right by me and no one else got to see him as they were all standing up talking. It was AWESOME!!! It was just like in the movie "Finding Nemo." He glided up, looked me in the eye made a cool side turn, then made several side turns through all the people and was gone. Just like that. Way cool. We also tried out our gear again at the west end of Waikiki Beach and saw even more fish since very few people swam in this area as there were lots of rocks, which means lots of fish life. Got to see a baby eel, several puffer fish, a school of angel fish, a bright yellow fish and many more. LOVE, love, love it.

There were positives and not so positives about the trip. I took the frugal way and this was sometimes good, sometimes bad. I learned a lot about "Hawaii time" and Hawaii traffic. Its a good thing that the main miles per hour was 35 and only 25 on Waikiki. Arrived on Tues and the hotel let us check in way early.

The frugal room: was ok---the perk was a hot breakfast as part of the room cost each day, which probably saved $20-30 dollars each day. The nice thing for me is I don't eat when I am on vacation. I get homesick and am not hungry. I lost a pound due to this odd behavior of mine. The cost of room $70 per night and included free parking for a rental car. The hotel was only 2 blocks from the beach, which was a huge plus. I recommend paying the more than $200 per night and stay on the beach front if you can afford it, it looks like a way better experience. For me, I no longer have a special guy in my life to do this with, so frugal it was. The room I had, had the noisiest air conditioner ever, and I am a light sleeper. Luckily, the BF brought extra ear plugs or I would not have slept at all!

Rented a car from Thursday to Sunday for $20 per day and the average for this was $40 per day. Found out that the Arizona Memorial is actually free to get into. I rode the bus on Wed to and from $2.50 each way but if you only stay for 2 hours you can ride for free back. I spent 5 hours there and still did not see it all.

The BF rented a beach umbrella and two lounge chairs that day as she had already seen the memorial. It was a terrific idea and one that I truly recommend that you do. Provided the perfect amount of shade and and quick access to the ocean for a quick dip for a cool off and then back to the interesting people watching and snoozing.

The luau was a splurge as we did take a tour bus to and from and it provided 3 drinks and all the food you wanted to eat. It was a lovely program.

Golfing was fun and on the north shore and even though it was only a 30 minute drive it took 2 1/2 hours because it was 35 mph maximum and lots of traffic.

For snorkeling we purchased the mask and snorkel and went to the park on our own since we had our transportation and saved money by purchasing our own gear and getting to and from the park. A big plus was not having to rent gear that someone else had their mouth on. EEWW--just the thought creeps me out.

Hiking Diamond Head Crater was really quick, only about 2 hours, and the shaved ices were delish after the hike, and we also went to a farmers market and art festival that was being held nearby, then back to the beach and more snorkel practice.

Sunday was the Dole Plantation--the pineapple ice cream is a must to purchase. We also did a walking tour of the garden too, and then North Shore again---saw some awesome waves and surfing, and that night leaving to come home.

Funny things: we got lost for 40 minutes each time we were in Waikiki--trying to leave or trying to get back to the hotel. So our new saying is "we'll take you anywhere, it's just going to take us 40 minutes to figure it out." We could see our hotel but not get to it due to all the one-way streets. At one point the BF shouted, "follow that trolley!" because she new it would stop at our hotel, which it did so that's another new saying for us too. Or versions thereof like "gee, I wish I had a trolley to follow."

I really recommend Hawaii. It is lovely.

Aloha!!!

Bible in a Year...8,7, 6 days to go.

Jeremiah is still informing the Israelites that if they don't repent and start giving thanks to Our Lord Your God they are going to loose everything. Lots of Israelites were carried off to Babylon and the remaining Israelites are going to be punished severely while the ones in Babylon will be looked after. I am not certain what is going on here and its quite confusing, but still my goal is to read it not necessarily understand it.

Psalms and Proverbs are always (most of the time) an enjoyable read.

and I am now in Timothy for the New Testament.

Grace to you, good day.

Occupy...what???

Occupy is currently a new movement in the United States. That is somewhat global. Unfortunately, most people are just rallying to rally and have no idea what "Occupy" is all about. Its all very silly, as Wall-Street, (I agree is greedy), has nothing to do with our current economic situation. It actually has to do with government and its Congress who de-regulated home loans and have made a mess of everything. Congress created the greed. In fact, if the companies on Wall-Street had not followed what the government ordered the company and its employees would have been fined and thrown in jail for not following their stupid, stupid laws. Congress (specifically---Barney Frank) created the problem not Wall-Street.

Get with the picture everybody and do some research. Sheesh. But of course most people are too lazy to do that. Most people like to be lead to the slaughter, so to speak, and don't care to actually find out what really happened. Like the BP Oil spill that VP Biden pushed through without having the safety measures in place. Look it up.

I say OCCUPY Congress!!! Throw Congress OUT!!! Throw the world governments out!

Oh yeah I forgot...end of the world.

It's supposed to be "the end of the world" on October 21. No man knows when this day is no matter how intelligent he may be. Or studied.

In fact, somewhere in my reading the Bible in a Year, one of the verses specifically states that when a person does make a prediction regarding the end of the world it is a guarantee that it will NOT happen on that day.

I believe its in Revelation. Its up to you to look it up and find it.

Its actually in several places but Revelation is one of them--As I recall, its somewhere in the Old Testament too.

Good day.

Bible in a Year...9 days to go.

Hello,
I am currently reading Jeremiah 21-23. The verses below are repeated continually in these chapters. At first they are irritating and I kept thinking to myself that I was lost and re-reading parts. Not true. Eventually after reading them so much, you hit a zone of understanding and start to look for the verses to soak them up even more. They pair beautifully with Thessalonians in the New Testament.

It also, turns out that even Our Lord Your God realizes that we only learn by repetitiveness and even then He realizes it is questionable if we actually learn it.

Jeremiah 21:11-14
11 “Moreover, say to the royal house of Judah, ‘Hear the word of the LORD.
12 This is what the LORD says to you, house of David:

“‘Administer justice every morning;
rescue from the hand of the oppressor
the one who has been robbed,
or my wrath will break out and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done—
burn with no one to quench it.
13 I am against you, Jerusalem,
you who live above this valley
on the rocky plateau, declares the LORD—
you who say, “Who can come against us?
Who can enter our refuge?”
14 I will punish you as your deeds deserve,
declares the LORD.
I will kindle a fire in your forests
that will consume everything around you.’”

During my reading last night I came to the conclusion that even now, we are hard-hearted and don't learn lessons very well. I was thinking of these verses and the times today and the people being harmed and the ones doing the harming. I then recalled 1Thessalonians (paraphrasing in my own words here) "all things are good and work towards God's greatness."

So in Jeremiah, God promises severe punishment towards those who oppress and are evil and in Thessalonians God promises that the suffering that happens is for a greater good. I am specifically thinking of the people who gave the 90 lashes and the women who receive them. I am thinking that I would not want to be the person giving the lashes as God promises a punishment 100 fold against that person (again my interpretation). Can you imagine a punishment 100 times the one you meted out? Yikes. I am in no way saying that the 90 lashes isn't bad enough. I am saying, think before you do evil because your punishment will be worse. Jeremiah states, its a guarantee.

It helps to have some sense of foresight in these cases and most of us don't. Most of us live for the moment and forget to think about how our own actions may affect our future or those around us. I am not implying that you need to freak out and worry about the future all the time too. That's what faith is about, isn't it?? Worrying is not encouraged and does happen to be a sin.

and here is my exciting verse you've all been waiting for from Proverbs:

Proverbs 25:16 & 17
16 If you find honey, eat just enough—
too much of it, and you will vomit.
17 Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house—
too much of you, and they will hate you.

Verse 17 brings a smile to my face as I recall someone telling me once that when you go to visit family or friends, his rule of thumb was stay no longer than it would take fish to go bad in the refrigerator, which he informed me is about 5 days. I think my own mum would say 3---at least applied to me anyway. ha. I always think of my fish rule when I go visiting and it always makes me smile.

and Verse 16, interestingly enough, it is true that if you eat too much honey it will make you sick. Even though we progress, some things never change.

and my paraphrasing of this verse would be: too much of a good thing and you get sick of it. or tired of it or bored with it. It's not so interesting (sweet) anymore. I think we've all experienced the acute desire for something or someone and once gotten we don't want it or them anymore. Not so great after all, eh?? The old saying "be careful what you ask for, you just might get it" is very apropos.

Thank you BibleGateway.com for the verses.

Grace to you, good day.

Knitting...Seaside Shawlette.

This is my most recent knitting accomplishment, the Seaside Shawlette. I started it on October 1 and finished it on Oct 10. It is a wonderful design by Wendy Gaal who runs Knitters Brewing Company. She is doing a KAL (knit along) for it until 11/11/11. I was able to wear mine around the house last night and can't wait to take it out in public. Just love, love, love it.

Now, back to knitting on some wips. (works in progress).

Bible in a Year...10 days to go.

Greetings,

I am currently reading Jeremiah 19, each night is about 2 chapters in this book. Its a quick read even if I don't quite get all of it. Last night Jeremiah got thrown in the stockade for being insubordinate to the current priests in charge. It was pretty exciting. Kinda like that local Amish elder who had some beards cut off, eh??? and made the National News, guess that was his 15 minutes of fame. Anyway, the priests in charge didn't like that J was telling them to be honest so they punished him. They let J go the next day.

In 1 Thessalonians, Paul encourages them to give thanks to God in any and all circumstances that you may find yourself. That everything in life is to the glory of God. I'm thinking that this is a little difficult in certain circumstances, like when you're hungry, homeless, or being hunted or beaten by the local government. I mean, for a woman in some countries you get 90 lashes for driving a car. Still, you're supposed to give thanks. Good luck with that. See, even I can be encouraging.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always,
17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalms reads like beautiful poetry and Proverbs the wisdom of the age.

Proverbs 25:15
Through patience a ruler can be persuaded,
and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

as always Proverbs is thought provking, I can't wait to post the one I have for tomorrow, until then...speak kindly to others and watch your tone too.

Thank you BibleGateway.com for the verses. I have such trouble with the links so I hope this one works. You can go and read for yourself, which is always best as I caught someone the other day taking things out of context and I gently warned them to be careful with doing that. You won't know unless you read it yourself.

Grace to you, and Good day.

Bible in a Year...11 days to go.

Jeremiah 16

Thessalonians

Psalm 77

Proverbs 25

The above books are where I am currently in the bible. I have noticed that Paul always begins his letters with: "Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ." (KJ version) A very nice salutation, don't you think?

and just to make you think about being lazy:
Proverbs 24:30-34
30 I went past the field of a sluggard,
past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
31 thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
34 and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.

Thank you BibleGateway.com for the links and the verses.

Grace be unto you.
Good day and happy reading.

Bible in a Year...12 days to go.

Jeremiah stays as confusing as ever. Lots of visions for the time period he is living in and for the future as well and it is difficult to discern, which is which. Paul is now sending his encouragement to the Thessalonians. Psalms, praising Our Lord Your God and admonishing Israel for not staying true. And Proverbs, always always, in my opine, thought provoking.

Proverbs 24:27
Put your outdoor work in order
and get your fields ready;
after that, build your house.

Good advice. For you cannot eat if you have no crops sewn. You can always build shelter later. A hungry stomach waits for no man. So many of us do this backwards, don't we? No wonder we suffer needlessly.

Thank you BibleGateway.com for the verse.

Good day.

Spinning news...Galia spindle.

Calypso roving
Galia Spindle

Take a look at this lovely. It came from Israel. It is a Galia Spindle design and I love the look of it. So bright and cheery. It arrived on Friday, Oct 7. In fact, I'm surprised I even received it since the box looked like a Sumo wrestler attacked it. It has so many openings and holes in the box I am confused to understand how it actually made it. I also got some lovely Calypso roving. Its not really my colours although I do like it.

Jeremiah is still confusing. Paul is encouraging the Colossians to help others. Psalms is praising Our Lord Your God. and Proverbs... well, its a favorite (except for 31:10-31 ---- but that's another story).

Proverbs 24

here is a new favorite in 24 for me:

Proverbs 24:26

An honest answer
is like a kiss on the lips.

I must confess my bad angel idea is to some day reply to someone when they ask for an honest answer --- make my reply; and then ask them how was the kiss? ha ...and then when I get the weird look, quote the verse. I suspect this scene plays out better in my head than it will in real life. :)

As you may or may not know, my belief is that most people I have ran into when stating they prefer honesty, don't really mean it. Honesty and truth cut like a knife, hence, its avoidance. (and why people tend to avoid me--I'm ok with it).

I really like Proverbs 24 and that is why I provided a link. You should take a quick second and read all of it. Its really very inspirational.

Thank you BibleGateway.com for the link and verse.

Good day.

Bible in a Year...17 days to go.

My sadness overwhelms me today, I can almost cut it with a knife. I could feel the sorrow coming for awhile and now it has arrived. Can you do that too??? Can you feel the energy too??

I surround myself with good things and good people and encourage myself to stay positive by all these wonderful things and the beauty that is around me. I am still sad. I will, without a doubt see happiness or joy on another day. For now, I take heart that my spirit needs a slow renewal and joy will come another time.

...and I miss G.

My search for wisdom and peace continues.
I impart another message from Proverbs.

Proverbs 24:5,6

Saying 22

5 The wise prevail through great power,
and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
6 Surely you need guidance to wage war,
and victory is won through many advisers.

Good day and have a good weekend.

Bible in a Year...19 more days to go...

...and today the Colossians receive Paul's wonderful praise as they walk the walk and doing the right thing at all times. Jeremiah is confusing but trudging through. Psalms is praising Our Lord Your God. And Proverbs is going through the sayings.

Saying 21
Proverbs 24:3,4

3 By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established;
4 through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.

Bible in a Year...20 more days to go...

I am almost complete with reading the bible in a year. Yeah me.

I will finish the year with Jeremiah. He's a bit of a long-winded writer and a little difficult to understand. In the New Testament, the Galatians were scolded by Paul for their fickleness and the Philippians are currently being praised by Paul. The ever praising & lamenting of God in Psalms and the "take a moment to think about it" Proverbs.

I have been a bit perturbed with Our Lord Your God here lately and am requesting a "free pass" from him to get out of the funk I'm in. I think Galatians put me in the funk. It made me feel slightly guilty about my own pursuits. Don't read it if you want to keep doing what your doing. Now the Philippians make you feel good about a good cause and fight the good fight. A very positive book to read indeed and take some inspiration along with you.

Click the link to http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifPhilippians for inspiration.

and Proverbs 24:1,2. remember the sayings?? well here is #20:
Saying 20

1 Do not envy the wicked,
do not desire their company;
2 for their hearts plot violence,
and their lips talk about making trouble.

Good day and happy reading in a year.

Golf- Springs Ranch

here are beautiful pictures of a local golf course in my area called Springs Ranch. This one is located out east from me so I don't get to it very often and the only reason I went this time was because I got a terrific deal.

Look at the gorgeous flower garden along one of the fareways!!! and that's me with my terrible back swing with Cheyenne Mountain in the background.

We sat in the clubhouse having a drink and planning my Halloween costume.
All in all, an enjoyable last weekend in September.

Adventure's of the Garden Goddess 2011...Fall

Hello, here is my favorite garden next to mine in my neighborhood. Garden #1. Look at the pumpkin this person has!!! Its terrific! forgot to take pictures of mine-GGG-(garden goddess garden). I have dill growing everywhere. lots of pear tomatoes, 5 zucchini, lots of strawberry plant runners running everywhere. carrots and beets still in the ground so that they don't go bad as soon.

I am taking a Fall Gardening class on Oct 15. I can't wait for next year.
Happy gardening.

Downtown...

I happened to ride my bicycle downtown on Saturday. I was shocked at the changes. First and foremost was the stores that have closed or changed to some bar. The sidewalks outside the bars are disgusting. I wish people weren't so disgusting with their trash and gum, YUCK!! It stank. It made me sad to see decent stores gone and in their place a nightclub.

Second there was a national protest against the bailout and I got pictures. It is very frustrating to see the impact regarding the bailout. Such greed. Which Brings me to mentioning Michael Lewis' new book Boomerang. Its about the different cultures and how each has reacted to the easy money. Or what has turned out to be not so easy after all. I liked Michael's comment on the Today Show about Iceland, how all the men got fired and the women took over. Looks like that needs to happen lots of places.
