Brule...

Brule came to Territory Days this weekend in my town. They had been absent for about two years from this event. I first saw them at this same event 6 years ago and I always try to go and see them if I know they are going to be in town. They are super. I can recommend that you obtain a cd or go and see them live. The group is mostly family members and they have an amazing story to impart. If I had to classify the music it would be Native American rock.

Take time to hear the live music in your area and the amazing stories these people have.
Good day.

The 5 Love Languages...contd

Last night I read about 3 more love languages---Gifts, Acts of Service and Quality Time.

People who speak the language of gifts are people who like gifts not because of the gift but because of the loving time that it took to think about it and get the gift. In fact, the price of the gift does not even matter. There were some interesting insights in this chapter and I enjoyed reading it.

Acts of Service love language is my main language. I appreciate when people help me and do things for me. These people are of the mindset that they feel loved when someone has taken the time to help them out. The author emphasized that service does not mean slavery. If the service is forced then it is NOT service, it then becomes NOT a choice and is not a love language.

Quality Time love language as with Words of Affirmation has different dialects. You'll have to obtain the book to understand this completely but in a nut shell there are different types of quality time and all are a part of this love language. Keep in mind if you are distracted by other things (cell phone, internet, TV, etc) this is not quality time.

I took a test last night that's in the book too and my main love language is Acts of Service and interestingly enough I have rarely had a partner that has ever spoken to me in this language. I also have two main sub love languages, which are Quality Time and Physical Touch (I know what you're thinking...non-sexual--people) which explains to me why I've most likely gotten along with people who do not speak my main love language.

One thing that was mainly emphasized in this book was to actively listen. To put other distractions away and to actually pay attention to whom you are speaking or interacting with. Shut the TV off, turn off the cell phone, etc. When you do not do this, this is not an act of love. Also, giving your own viewpoint or advice is not an act of love when it is not requested. The author emphasizes to actively listen, which means be quiet and pay attention.

By the time I finished the 3 chapters I was mentally wore out with all the thought provoking insights from the author and almost disliked the book. I knew at that point it was time to set it aside and come back to it later. I recommend reading this one chapter a day. Less is more, so they say.

Good day. Happy listening to those around you.

Proverbs 16:10-11

10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle,
and his mouth does not betray justice.

11 Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord;
all the weights in the bag are of his making.

Food for thought.

Proverbs 16:8-9

8 Better a little with righteousness
than much gain with injustice.

9 In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.

I was reading my older posts and I don't really care for the way I write. Its very prideful and annoying. I suppose the only way to get better at it is to keep writing. Hopefully I don't irritate everyone too much.

I like verse 9 and can only hope that my steps are true. I do seem to be sabotaging myself lately (do you do that too??) and this has become very frustrating for me. I must get back on track. We are our own worst enemy at times. sigh.

The Five Love Languages (singles edition)--by Gary Chapman

I am currently reading the Five Love Languages (Singles Edition) by Gary Chapman. I have previously read the one for married people (when I was married) but Mr. X did not bother to read it so why bother staying married (there's a lot more to it than that, that's enough).

Its a very good book. I find that most people that I have spoken to that have read it do NOT get the main point of the whole book, which is that love is a choice. It literally means that you choose whom you love and if you love them. It is not about the wonderful endorphins we each feel when we first meet someone who interests us. It is a choice. In fact, so far each chapter the author keeps writing about how love is a choice and keeps reminding us throughout the book about the choice. I think that's an interesting emphasis that the author keeps making.

Every person I meet talks about the 5 love languages and yes they are important. It is also important to realize that you choose to love. You are not un-loveable. There is love all around and you choose whether to receive it or give it. You do. Not some unforeseen entity, not the air around you, not some outside influence.

I am currently finished reading about the first love language, which is Words of Affirmation. This is not my language. It is informative reading and reminds me to speak positively and watch my tone---the way I speak to others.

In my reading so far, I also learned that there are two stages of love:
1. Obsessive love - passionate love, which is what everyone is looking for and thinks is love--this love is fleeting--it cannot be sustained.
2. Covenant love ---lasting sustainable love.

and here is where I pose my own proposition about the two stages of love. I believe you can skip a stage. The author definitely states that it is possible to skip covenant love and that is why there are so many people that have problems because they do not continue to the covenant love. The author continually warns that love is work. Hard work and to not give up because it is deeply gratifying too.

I am proposing that you can also skip passionate love. I think you can go into either stage or have both happen. Its probably a better scenario and more healthy if you go through both with the same person. But we as a society are too impatient to take the time to obtain the covenant love stage and want the passionate love at all times. Its like we are hooked on it like its a drug. Passionate love is presented to us everywhere and makes it so much more desirable.

Such a shame too. Personally, I would take the covenant love any day over the passionate one. The author states that passionate love can only be sustained for so long. He is not by any means stating that there isn't passion in covenant love just that its different.

Thank you Amazon.com for the picture.

There are two things that we desire above all else: to love and to be loved.
Enjoy your Love Language.
Good day.

I'm a Christian...don't you just cringe when you hear those words???

I just cringe when I hear the words, "I'm a Christian." I pretty much know to count on the fact that the person will be rude, harsh, completely unforgiving; a user, a lush; a major hypocrite; a major complainer; has nothing good to say; doesn't pay taxes; doesn't pay child support. Ok, the last two are for Mr. X who has a major claim of "christian" and I'm still waiting for my money.

I look to a person's actions more than what a person looks like, or says who they are. The actions are what tell me what to expect.

We are all the above aren't we??? (Except Christian) Its just that the claim of "Christian" means what???? It means more that what it really is, don't you think?? I do. It places a presumption of more good---if there is such. The word actually makes me cringe and usually I know to expect less.

Shame really, isn't it???
Good day.

Proverbs in a Year...May 28.

Proverbs 16:6-7

6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

7 When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way,
he causes their enemies to make peace with them.

John Gills commentary on the two above verses are interesting. He explains that doing good is not enough--its a two-part process. A person must do good, abstain from ungodly behavior and also believe in Him (Christ). Interesting.

Once I thought about the commentary that's exactly it just in different words that mean the same thing.

You may check out the commentary for yourself -- here.

Proverbs 16:4-5

4 The Lord works out everything to its proper end —
even the wicked for a day of disaster.

5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

It seems that Chapter 16 is really emphasizing the heart and its desires-good and bad. Remember to be humble and don't fake this either for Our Lord Your God knows what is truly in your heart. I've ran into people lately who "fake" humility and it makes the person look even more proud than if they just acted normal about the issue. Don't you just find it irritating when they do this?? I do.

Proverbs in a Year...May 26.

Proverbs 16:1-3

1 To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.

2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives are weighed by the Lord.

3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.

I like the above verses. They remind me to pray and most importantly pray about the plans I have for my life.

Each night before I sleep I remember to commit the two things that are important to me right now to Our Lord Your God. The first is to pay of my debt, which is coming along nicely. Should be done by December of this year. I will admit I have sabotaged myself a couple of times and each time I remember that tomorrow is a new day and I get to start brand new. Don't give up. I am already 2/3 paid off.

The second is to lose weight. I don't have much to get rid of, it would help me health-wise to lose 30 lbs and it seems this is very difficult and very slow going for me since I have a low thyroid and just eating 600 calories a day can cause me to gain weight. 600 calories is not much. I have obtained a free app for my phone called "Lose It" and have set up a plan for 1500 calories a day, which to my surprise, is more than enough food to eat. Its a great app, and I like how you can track your daily and weekly progress, which is very helpful in spotting the troublesome days of overeating. I hope to be able to infuse my diet and eat more filling foods (fibrous) for those days. Its also helped me to be more informed nutritionally and how many calories everything has in it. Fruits and veggies hardly have any. Nuts have a ton but are still good for you and filling. Protein hardly has any calories either. Its the carbs that get you. (I have not received anything for the "Lose It" endorsement).

Remember to commit to Our Lord Your God your plan and He will establish it as long as your motives are pure.

Proverbs 15:31-32

31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
will be at home among the wise.

32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves,
but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

Sometimes its hard to listen to wise correction these days. We have so many distractions: cell phones, television, movies, vehicles, internet. At times I am not paying attention and am wayward. I need to listen and pay attention. Its like a warning label, you need to look at them and read them to know what they say. Pay attention everyone, and remember its a two-part process.

Proverbs 15:29-30

29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.

I'm having a hard time posting lately. My heart is heavy. There is no reason for it, it's just me. I have a good life. The verses above lighten my heart and brings me good news. I think verse 30 is why I like Proverbs so much as the author brings good news.

Proverbs 15:27-28

27 The greedy bring ruin to their households,
but the one who hates bribes will live.

28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers,
but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.

Makes a person think, doesn't it?? Verse 27 speaks for itself and reminds me of our government. Verse 28 reminds me to think before I speak and to speak in a positive manner to others even when the subject may be an uncomfortable one. No manipulation games, no guilt trips; just the right words and tone.

Integrity... 0/32

Check out all the hilarious referral comments. Don't be drinking anything or your keyboard & monitor will get soaked.

Integrity does not equal Professor Elizabeth Warren nor Harvard in this case as they didn't check to see if she really was Native American either. And she plagerized two recipes for the cook book!!! REALLY??? a professor at Harvard!!!

Good day.

Don't mind me I'm just out and about enjoying life...

Seven Bridges Hike - North Cheyenne Canyon - Colorado

This is a great hike. Just after the 7th bridge the terrain is a little washed out and difficult and then gets easy again. I just went to the 7th bridge with my trusty dog, Kasey. Isn't she great???

This is a very busy trail. Good thing as there were some people that were camping along the trail that didn't look safe. They even made Kasey nervous. I hiked this with my work group which was a nice experience.

Good day and happy hiking---be safe too.

Proverbs 15:24-26

24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent
to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead.

25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud,
but he sets the widow’s boundary stones in place.

26 The Lord detests the thoughts of the wicked,
but gracious words are pure in his sight.

Our Lord Your God holds a special place in his thoughts for widows. There is constant instruction that they be taken care of. Ruth is all about this as she takes care of her mother-in-law as she and her MIL are both widowed.

Verse 26: is a great reminder to watch my thoughts and to be gracious in my wording. Always good.

23 A person finds joy in giving an apt reply —

I like both verses. I especially was able to give a reply to someone(DD) today that was timely, apt and logical. It gave both myself and this person boundaries, helped us both out by not having to argue. Very apt indeed.

Proverbs in a Year...May 19.

and because I don't post on the weekends, here is half of it now:

Proverbs 15:20-21

20 A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish man despises his mother.

21 Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,
but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.

Both verses bring people to my mind when I read the above verses. Do they for you too?? In verse 20, I have a nephew who truly despises his mother. Guess where he is at 24-7? Please note, I didn't state he doesn't love her. You can tell by a persons tone and actions when they despise. I took said person to task when they treated my own mother badly. Curtailing bad behavior has to be learned too, ya know? I think we miss that lesson at times.

And of course, Verse 21 reminds me of the prior person I spoke about on May 18, as they are very joyful about not working and have no sense. Too bad. One day they will wake up and go "ooopps." Until then the rest of us get to suffer, if we allow it.

Proverbs in a Year...May 18.

Proverbs 15:18-19

18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict,
but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.

19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns,
but the path of the upright is a highway.

Verse 18 reminds me of myself and to keep my temper under control. Its true, the more patient you are with someone does help. I will state that even Jesus became angry at times. I recently became upset with someone because they informed me that they wanted to try acid as they believed it would make them more creative. I believe that's a cop-out and accused them of being bored with life.

Verse 19 reminds me of someone I know who doesn't want to get a "real job" (work 40 hours per week or at least enough to pay for rent, heat, food & fuel), and thinks they make enough to live---yet they are living off everyone else and their hard work. Unfortunately, they see no value obtaining work that pays their way. There is a lot of value to having a 9-5 job in that it puts you in situations that help you relate to people and pay the bills. Its a win-win situation early in life. Otherwise you get to struggle throughout life, in my opinion (,which I see this a lot).

but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.

16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord

17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love
than a fattened calf with hatred.

About last night...

At times when going to bed, it brings dread to me as I am a very light sleeper. I try to have my humidifier going so it provides some white noise. It is a "whisper quiet" humidifier because even its noise keeps me awake. Its better to hear it than all the obnoxious people and animals in the neighborhood and now with it being warmer weather my windows are open. "The better to hear everyone and everything, my dears." UGh.

And that's what I miss most about my rural life----it was so amazingly quiet---it was lovely.

The neighbor across the street and three houses down has a whiny, barky dog and said neighbor has now began to leave obnoxious dog outside now that its nice. Unfortunately the neighbor has not taught his dog to only bark when their is something to bark at.

The dog started barking about 1:30am. I finally got up at 2am as the dog barking was making my dog nervous and she wanted out to see what all the ruckus was about and the noise was also giving me a headache and if I didn't do something soon it would turn into a migraine. I decided to speak to the owner and kindly ask them to put the dog in and that's when I found out that the owner was absent. On the way over I was wondering how to handle my situation and decided that even with the headache I now had from the dog barking I could speak to it and the owner kindly. I was actually recalling verses from my Proverbs in a Year that I recently posted.

I told the dog it was a good dog and for it to quiet down. It did a little. The tone in the barking changed slightly and yet it still persisted barking. Geez, the neighbors next door are certainly sound sleepers indeed.

I kept wondering what to do. And then it hit me, the dog is barking because it is afraid to be alone and is bored. I got a milk bone and went back over and gave it to the dog. Viola. no more barking till it was done with the bone and then it barked for a bit and stopped. It just needed the knowledge that it wasn't alone and that someone cared and it settled down and was finally quiet. The owner never came home.

Please remember to bring your barky dog inside even in the warmer weather. Thank you.
Good day.

Family...G.

Where do I start??? Do I start at the very beginning speaking lovingly of an incredible family and incredible odds? Do I speak about the hardships and the internal family hurt and dynamics of same?

The beginning starts well over 100 years ago...1911.

The middle is at 50 years ago...where family expectations and family dynamics come into play. 1930-1980.

The near end is approximately 20 years ago...1994.

And the end is 3 years ago till now....2009.

The future begins this week and the responsibilities and expectations are soon to be passed to future generations of my family. My only hope is that they make good choices and honor our ancestors and keeping our history sacred as well as the good and not so good memories. As for the family pain that has been caused I acknowledge it and hope to promote it in a more positive, humane manner.

We all have incredible stories. We all have incredible pain and grief. We all have wonderful memories.

We all have beginnings. Where does yours start? Where does yours continue?

I find that I have had to re-visit additional grief that I feel for G and it caught me by surprise. It has greatly saddened me to the point of feeling as though I am frozen in time. I can barely function and yet I do function as though on auto-pilot. You would not think that a simple renewal of a family brand could affect a person as it has and yet here I am, affected.

My brother and I currently jointly own the family brand (yes, I do mean cattle brand--and is an interesting story in itself) and I now must remove his name from it. I find myself not wanting to do this. I find myself missing him so much I am incapacitated by my grief again. I have known that I would be doing this since last June. I have tried to prepare for it. I am very naive in thinking that removing his name could be so easily done, at least by me.

I have tried to ignore it; I have tried to just go with the flow; I have cried myself to sleep while on the phone with a loving friend who listened to my grief; I have gone back to anger to be able to function; I have gone back to questioning; I have gone back to denial; and in the end I am just sad.

I have revisited speaking about death in public which is a huge no, no, and it makes everyone around you uncomfortable. You should see everyone's faces when I do this, its almost comical, if it weren't so sad. And then I revisit incredulous as its difficult for me to understand why people in the USA are so afraid of death. I even find myself unable to say the right thing or do the right thing for others when they go through their own journey of the death of a beloved. Even through my own grief I have learned---nothing. I conform to societal norms. Shame on me.

Back to my dilemma:
I only need do 3 things: 1. pay the brand fee 2. write a request letter to remove G's name, 3. send a copy of a certificate of death. Easy peasy, right?

It is now completed and my heart hurts.

Kindly acknowledge those around you who may be experiencing their own grief. Listen. Don't tell them that you understand; and don't tell them it will get better; or that you are sorry: you don't, it doesn't, and you aren't.

"My sympathies" is enough.
Good day.

Adventures of the Garden Goddess--Year 2.

I did finally get the rest of the garden cleaned out. I have lots of worms. That's a good thing when gardening. I have my radishes and lettuce planted and they are already coming up. One thing about not cleaning up my garden from last year I have plants coming up that were seeded by last years plants. Beans and dill are also happily growing. Although I think one may be a cucumber plant. All great fun.

Happy Gardening and for those of you in the colder climates you can now start planting to your hearts content.---well, at least where I am at.

I am currently seeking profound insight from those around me and they don't really know what to say. It makes me sad. Sad that I feel the way I do and sad that I have placed them in a difficult situation with no way for them to answer me. Criticism...hypocrisy.

I recently ran into someone who recently criticized me for doing something that they themselves spoke in the same breath that they do the action they criticized. It stung because it wasn't good behavior. It was an enjoyable situation to be in. I even had a witness to this action and the 3rd party stated "what the heck is up with that???" I stated to said 3rd party, "we are all hypocrites."

I had already carefully scrutinized my own behavior as I was wondering the same thing as what the person criticized.
I came to the conclusion that:

1. no, I was not doing the behavior for the reason critical friend suggested. there were just too many things pointing to the positive vs negative in this behavior;

2. that critical friend was envious of my situation and unfriendly because she felt she wished it was her instead of me (I know that's really presumptuous of me, isn't it??).

3. and last and most hurtful, that,in critical friend's opinion, I was undeserving of said situation.

In fact, the last took my breath away and hurt so very much. It was so on target that you just "know" when you've discovered the true answer. I had finally discovered the reason that it has taken me so long to become friends with this person is that they see them-self as "better" than others and feel that others are much less deserving of the good life. How sad for them. I suppose I am the token "white trash" in this person's life.

Its interesting to me that I slowly noticed this and have been reaching out to others due to this phenomenon that is part of the friendship.

I hope your friends accept you for who you are and are truly happy for you when good things happen in your life.
Good day.

Proverbs 14:22-24

22 Do not those who plot evil go astray?
But those who plan what is good find[a] love and faithfulness.

23 All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to poverty.

24 The wealth of the wise is their crown,
but the folly of fools yields folly.

The verses above bring reflecting thoughts to my mind. I especially like verse 23 today.

5 Stages of Loss...

I am constantly looking for these so I thought I would post them here so I don't have to look for them anymore. Keep in mind these are just guidlines and not proven. Also note, that not everyone goes through all the stages (supposedly). I am not so certain to discount that we don't.

1. denial
2. anger
3. bargaining (this can be with yourself, with others, with a higher power, etc)
4. depression or sadness
5. acceptance

I liked this article about loss of a relationship and of course you don't need a Phd to guess why. (move along)

Good day.

Proverbs 14:20-21

20 The poor are shunned even by their neighbors,
but the rich have many friends.

21 It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor,
but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

I like both of these verses today. I wish I felt I could write something more moving about them that would capture your attention and get you to think deeply about them. I'm going to just have to let them stand for themselves and let you ponder them on your own without any commentary.

Proverbs 14:17-19

17 A quick-tempered person does foolish things,
and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.

18 The simple inherit folly,
but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 Evildoers will bow down in the presence of the good,
and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

The above verses really make me think about recent situations I have witnessed. Its true that evildoers do back down in the presence of good, I have witnessed it first-hand.

Proverbs 14:15-16

15 The simple believe anything,
but the prudent give thought to their steps.

16 The wise fear the Lord and shun evil,
but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.

I seem to be living Proverbs 14 these days. I see the people in my mind that the verses have me thinking about. Do you do that too? I should let my judements go and flow through life wisely.

Proverbs 14:13-14

13 Even in laughter the heart may ache,
and rejoicing may end in grief.

14 The faithless will be fully repaid for their ways,
and the good rewarded for theirs.

I feel verse 13 today and I can only hope that verse 14 is true.

Proverbs 14:11-12

11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed,
but the tent of the upright will flourish.

12 There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.

I like verse 12 today.

Proverbs 14:9-10

9 Fools mock at making amends for sin,
but goodwill is found among the upright.

10 Each heart knows its own bitterness,
and no one else can share its joy.

I thought to take a closer look at verse 10. Its intriguing to me. John Gill's explanation is fairly satisfactory.
