Keep Your Fork...

Just a story to pass on...

"There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things 'in order,' she contacted her Pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.

She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in.
Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.
'There's one more thing,' she said excitedly..
'What's that?' came the Pastor's reply.
'This is very important,' the young woman continued. 'I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.'
The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say. That surprises you, doesn't it?' the young woman asked.
'Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request,' said the Pastor.

The young woman explained. 'My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!'

So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?' Then I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork ..the best is yet to come.'

The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket and they saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, 'What's with the fork?' And over and over he smiled.

During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to come. Friends are a very rare jewel , indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. Cherish the time you have , and the memories you share. Being friends with someone is not an opportunity, but a sweet responsibility.

Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND...and I'll bet this will be an Email they do remember, every time they pick up a fork!
And just remember...keep your fork! The BEST is yet to come!"

The bible is constantly reiterating respect for your parents. Some of us do not have the greatest of parents. I struggled with this for many years myself. I was then able to have a healthy respect for said parent and put to rest being mentally abused by this person.

Remember respect and love do not have to come together. Respect also does not mean admiration. You can respect someone without loving them or admiring them. And as many of you may know, visa-verse (because we love those we shouldn't---maybe).

I think there are healthy ways to treat people and this includes respect. If you are one of those who happens to have a not so great parent there are still healthy ways to being respectful to them.

I've been busy...yes, I have...First up...DIY-Fencing

Hello, been busy fixing fence, hiking and going to music concerts.

First is this lovely fence. It was blowing down and looked horrible. It was hanging on by a thread. I could hear it creak at night when the wind blew. Now I have this lovely fence that is silent and very nice looking. It took more time ripping up the old fence posts and digging up the old concrete than to put this fence up.

So #1 - preparation
when you have an old fence to replace count on 2 weeks to get the old fence posts out. If there is no old fence posts and concrete you can skip the removal process. You will still need to dig your holes for fence posts and these should be about 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet deep.

#2 - decide on what type of fence is best for your area. In my reading online I learned that if you live in an area that is windy you do NOT want a solid fence. They take quite a beating in the wind and do not last as long. I found a design while I was walking on break at work that works well in windy areas and looks classy too.

#3 - take measurements of the area in question. Decide how many posts etc. Also pertinent to the fence design is width between posts. As the only way for anyone to get into my back yard is by way of this fence and you need to have one section wide enough to get a back hoe into the back area if you have any underground plumbing problems. (ask me how I know this issue??). If you forget to calculate for this you or the next person who owns the home will have a major issue with the fence and plumbing. Access for the width should measure at least 8 feet wide and a mini-back hoe can maneuver in.

#4 - purchase your supplies---for my fence the cost was approximately $275.00 and included everything you see for the final fence. The folks at Home Depot were really helpful (although one guy was really patronizing and the other guy was just a little patronizing) -- personally I think it was because they saw that a woman was doing the repair and didn't like it. Maybe they felt as though their manhood was in question...whatever. Just help me out here guys. The one guy that wasn't so patronizing could figure all the supplies in his head. He was really good.

Note: I went to Lowe's too and not a single soul would even give me the time of day there. hmmm...back to Home Depot for more patronizing.

#5 - POST HOLES - part of your supplies will contain quick crete or you can make your own concrete if you know how. This quick crete is WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL STUFF!!! Your holes are dug set your post in --- make certain it is level (you will need a leveler) for this. And make certain your post is in the center of the hole and at the height that you desire. You will need two bags per 2ft hole and it is expensive stuff but well worth the cost. run a plumb line to make certain your fence is straight.

#6 - I waited overnight after setting in the posts to finish the fence just to make certain they were really, really stable.

#7 - put in cross braces on the posts at the exact height that you want your horizontal fence braces to go in. put in the horizontal 2x4.

#8 - screw in the wood slates on the front. Make sure these are level all the way down otherwise it looks as though you have a crooked fence. a plumb line and leveler or straight piece of wood helps with this. work on the back slates on the back all the way down.

#9 - rest for 3 days. whew!!! I was exhausted and I even had a boatload of help doing this. Its a fabulous fence.

#10 - now do the other side to match.---this is still waiting. hopefully soon.

What the heck is going on???

This has provided one Egyptian man more than his allotted 15 minutes of fame.

It's very concerning that some people can be so easily controlled and influenced to violence. This must make certain people very happy to know this.

Why are these people listening to someone who has no knowledge?

I believe the film has a right to be made. I do not agree with its message. Seems to me that is its sole objective was to create violence. That there are people that riot to riot...hmmm, I suppose I'll have to keep this in mind when I want to conquer the world, it could be useful.

Mix - 2009

Strange story: I have a cat named Mix who is very old now and very sick and someone stole her Friday, September 7.

The picture is of Mix in better days. She is a great cat and part Manx. She knew her name and would not answer to kitty. We did not put a collar on her at first and then when we did she loved it and insisted that it be on her. When it was off of her she would pick it up and bring it to us or bug us until it was put on. She loved being outside. She would walk DD to the friends house six houses down and walk DD home again. She always came out meet me to greet me home from work or from a walk with the dog. She loved sleeping under the pine tree under a special branch. She loved to lay out in the sun. Many thought she was mean---she wasn't, she just wanted to know you on her own terms.

She didn't belong to us, she belonged with us.

She loved me and DD very much.

I hope she's ok. I miss you very much Mix. Take care.

I am sad. Many people suggest she went off to die---I know she wouldn't leave that tree or me for anything. I know someone took her. I wonder what happened to her and I wonder if she's ok.

This is sound advice. I try to pay cash for everything I do now. In fact, its part of my decluttering and becoming a minimalist program for myself. If I need it I wait a day or two to buy and if I still need it then I purchase. Plus I've made a deal with myself that if I purchase one thing I must get rid of two. Boy, is that difficult to do sometimes.

I guess since every endeavor Mr. X, does try seems to fail --- I bet if he paid me what he owed with regards to child support he would then have success. Interesting concept, I won't hold my breath.

Proverbs 22:14

14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit;
a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it.

I always get my back up when women are to blame for men's bad choices and it seems that this verse may allude to this perception.

After reading John Gill's commentary what this may be saying is that a man who is already making bad choices and in the "pit" gets to fall deeper into the pit by following an adulterous woman. Let's face it there are bad people out there and they are both men and women. Thus the "bad" man hangs out with a "bad" woman and just continues deeper into the pit. His choice and her choice.
