Unclutter - mini update.

#1 pay off debt - still pondering - will do in Jan. Its scary for me. This is the case of the known is safer than the unknown. Doesn't make much sense but true. Although on the positive side of this there are no new charges to the credit card.

#2 loose weight - lost 1 pound this week, yeah me. One day I may actually post what I weigh but not today. Those little insecurities get to all of us and this is one of mine.

#3 home/life unclutter - sadly this has gone from being once a day to 2-3 times per week. I was speaking with my friend CB and she suggested that she only does this 2-3 times per week and you still have a neat home. I did sand off the bathroom ceiling and then swept up the yuckies from that. To get this ready to be painted.

So the big news for me is that the weight loss is beginning to be consistent since Nov and I have been working on it since Oct. Still uncluttering the home and no new credit card charges. I am paying cash for everything.

As part of the debt unclutter I thought I would do a Proverbs in a Year study as I don't believe I can do this all by myself. I think Proverbs is great for little reminders on how to live your life the right way. Stay tuned.

As a reminder, I never post on weekends or holidays. I believe those days to be sacred and you should all turn off the TV and electronics and get outside and be with family and friends. (or knit and spin--hee) Just my two-cents, for what its worth. See ya next year.

Happy New Year,
Good day.

UNCLUTTER my life...

Hello,
A few weeks back I was reading the "Be More With Less Blog," was recently seeing an interesting "someone," and read the bible in a year, to which inspired by all of this I decided I needed to "un-clutter" my life.

I usually don't make New Year's Resolutions as most times I am of the opinion that they don't work. For me this choice of becoming un-cluttered is in actuality a total "life change." As I wish to make being un-cluttered permanent in my life.

I made this decision to un-clutter during the middle of November 2011, and have been formulating a plan ever since.

I have 3 areas that I specifically wish to become un-cluttered:
1. pay off my debt in a year
2. lose weight in a year to an acceptable number and maintain that number
3. un-clutter my home/life.

all are constant and continuous life changes.

UNCLUTTER area #1: Pay off my debt: I was reading Be More With Less and she recommended a book to read, "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. I got the book from the library and I must confess didn't really read it until the day it was supposed to go back to the library. My opinion of the book is that it has a lot of fluff-life stories, of which I personally didn't need but believe that most people do. I needed to get to the meat of the book and found it difficult to find at times due to all the life stories.

So I skimmed it (because it was supposed to be returned and I didn't want a fine and it wouldn't renew since someone else had a hold on it). Once I found the information that were the main points I found that it was very helpful and informative.

Dave's first recommendation is if you have debt and savings, take all your savings and pay off the debt. VERY SCARY. At least for me. My savings is my safety net, just in case something happens. Dave recommends this because you will actually save money in the long run, he provides examples for his argument and I believe he is correct. He also states do NOT consolidate your debt. Take your smallest debt and pay it off. Have little successes to encourage you to have bigger successes. We as human beings need this to keep positive and continue with our goal.

Dave's second recommendation is to build a savings of approximately $1000. This is for the little emergencies that happen. His argument here is that most emergencies in life are under this amount and he provides examples for this too.

Another of Dave's recommendation is to write down every time you spend money. In fact you have to write it down within 10 minutes of spending or else you will lose your focus on your goal, which is to pay off your debt. I have been doing this since June and it has helped me save money.

And one last important point that I obtained is Dave recommends that you do NOT use a credit card. Pay cash for everything. He also recommends writing down your goal and putting it where you will see it every day as a reminder.

The book is a good read and very informative. If you need to pay off debt in your life I recommend that you read Dave Ramsey's book. Obtain it from your local library.

Conclusion for #1: is to pay off my debt in one year. I have formulated a plan with the help of Be More With Less and Dave Ramsey's suggestions and I will put this into action beginning January 1st by using my savings to pay off half of my debt and then paying the rest off within the next year. Part of my plan is to not use my credit card for one year. Once done the only time I will ever use the card again is if I can pay it off each month. To begin with I have cancelled all automatic charges that I have on the card.

Wish me luck and I will be posting my progress in the future.

UNCLUTTER #2-lose weight: I am not obese, I am over-weight. Since making this decision in November, I have lost 5 pounds. I watch what I eat. I have increased my exercise to going to the health center on my breaks every day and for a least 15 minutes ride the stationary bike at an R6 for 2 miles. I have reduced my wine/alcohol intake and I need to reduce eating cheese and no potato chips. This has also helped with skiing.

Conclusion for #2: I have increased my exercise to a daily activity and try to weed out the heavy fat foods.

I will continue to post my progress.

UNCLUTTER #3-unclutter my home/life: I have areas in my home that are cluttered and I don't like it. I have high regard for others and seeing their homes and everything has a place and its nice and neat. I want that. I noticed that the way these person's have a neat home is that they tackle a small area each day. They tackle an area that takes about 15-20 minutes out of their lives. This is very doable.

It makes that area clean and neat and not overwhelming because you are only tackling one small area not the whole place. My plan that I implemented during December is each day I take one area in my home and un-clutter it. I have un-cluttered 10 small areas so far. Its very gratifying.

Interestingly enough, DD has noticed the uncluttering, which has created an interest for her. She also has begun to tackle tiny areas and has begun un-cluttering her life too. I love having a positive effect in her life and am fascinated by the unexpected chain reaction my uncluttering has had.

My mom has become interested and asks me when she speaks to me, what did you un-clutter today? I like this as it keeps me honest with myself and motivated. She has become my accountability mentor.

Conclusion #3: I take 15-20 minutes each day to unclutter an area of my home.

And there you have it, my decision for a life change to unclutter my life and keep it up for the rest of my life. I believe its a positive decision and am pleased with it. Wish me luck.

What will you decide to un-clutter today?? Take one small area and get it done. Come on it will only take about 15 minutes.

Good day.

Copper Mountain skiing...

Copper Mtn- Dec 26.2011
Copper Mtn-Blackjack ski lift-Dec 26.2011
Hello,
Did you all have a lovely holiday??? Mine was fine. I spent the day with mom and DD. They are such cool people to be with, its nice to be related to them.

The day after Christmas was spent skiing at the lovely Copper Mountain. I just love the place I live. I can get to this view in about 2 1/2 hours. Is it not one of the most beautiful places to live? If not, darned close. I love that country song that states that if God doesn't live here, He definitely spends a lot of time here.

The pictures were taken at the top of the Blackjack ski run, the Rendevous chair lift on Copper Mtn. It's breath-taking isn't?

Had a great day skiing. The lift lines were very manageable and not busy in the morning and not a long wait at all to get on the chair lifts even later in the day. It was a little blustery and the wind can sometimes make things miserable but for this day it wasn't so bad and I used my hand warmers, which helped a lot. My handmade wool socks keep my feet warm and toasty and I didn't need any feet warmers at all. Yeah, for hand-knits. I declare the muggles do not know what they are missing regarding hand-knit socks.

I like to ski straight through from 9 to about 1 or 2pm and then eat and leave. 4 - 5 hours of skiing and I am a happy camper. Plus I start to get tired and fall if I try to do more than this. I fell 3 times and the 3rd time was about 1pm. I started to get cranky and realized that I was tired and hungry, so it was time to stop.

All in all, a happy ski day for me.
Good day and happy snow sports to you.

Winter Solstice Concert...

Winter Solstice was here last night, Dec 21, and arrived with a foot of snow in most areas. I had the opportunity to go to a music concert. I know, I should have my head examined. The concert was performed by Wayne Hammerstadt and company. They performed Renaissance music along with 70s rock music. It was very coolio. Take a look at Wayne's web-site.

He is an excellent musician and I believe one of the best in this country and I am lucky enough to be able to hear him perform live and in-person. Yeah me.

Driving home last night was not pleasant and almost got stuck in the parking lot. Very slippery-o. Take care for those of you in the Winter Storms today.
Good day.

Car plate stolen...

Hello,
For those of you not in the know: back car plate stealing is very prevalent or in the alternative slicing off the back sticker is too. What do you do when this happens??:

1. you call the police and make a police report that your plate was stolen and obtain a case number.
2. you go to the DMV give them the police case number and they will provide new plates at a discounted rate.
3. pay the rate: usually about $8 to $10 dollars.
4. put your plate back on the car with different size hex nuts and use a medium blue bonding agent on the shaft of the screw so it is difficult to remove your plate.

Meanwhile, you are out time, money and someone else has your old plate. Its all very frustrating and I believe a continuation of the difficult times ahead for all, including the person who stole the plate in the first place.

Good day.

Beautiful Blue debut.

Hello,
BB and I had our guitar/singing debut. It was loads of fun. I am told it was very bad and very entertaining. It was so bad that the guy I was seeing broke up with me the next day! I guess it really was that bad. Too funny!!! (It's really no surprise and I'm not really crushed, shhh--it just stung a bit).

As for the song, its a Tom Petty, sorry Tom, I really did massacre it. And some explanation is due regarding the switch of words. The person this was written for had just recently gone to Cheyenne Frontier Days and hiked Machu Picchu, and loves skiing and snow biking and hiking and that's just for that year and her DH is Ken. She loves scuba diving too, but I left that out.

See for yourself: Lynne's Guitar-Singing Debut

Good day! and enjoy life!

Once Again...

Goodnight Gram does it again. See if your eyes are dry after reading this post.

I just love Goodnight Gram. She reminds me to be kind no matter the situation you may be in as you may not have all the information regarding the situation. Remember to ask your question the right way.

Good day.

Lovely...

Lake Dillon, Colorado-Dec 2011
Be More With Less-Notice the Lovely

I encourage you to read the above posting. It got me to thinking about the lovely in my life. I have a lot of lovely and am grateful for it.

The most lovely in my life:

1. DD & family

2. cleaning up - you'd have to know me to understand this, but my explanation is that I can fall up or down, and break what is not breakable, burn what shouldn't be burned and can do all of the above in a matter of minutes or over a long period of time. In fact, I can almost guarantee that every person that I know has a funny story to tell. Even people who have only known me for a matter of minutes. I call myself a "beautiful disaster" and do not mean this in a negative connotation at all. I know who I am and can appreciate it. I have and so do others, interesting memories concerning me and what I get to clean up after I have been in attendance. It makes me smile.

3. lovely friends
4. lovely trips
5. lovely happy dog & lovely grouchy cat
6. lovely attitude
7. lovely place to live

Enjoy life and thinking about the lovely in your life.
Good day.

Skiing...Keystone.

Keystone Dec 12-2011
Been away and this time it has been for snow sports, skiing to be specific. I truly like the pre-season skiing. For one, in my opinion, the ground is not so hard and if there has been lots of snow fall its better snow. This season snow fall has not been as good as last year. It was still fun and I had a lovely condo that was in walking distance to the ski lift. Yeah me. Spent from 9am until 2pm on the slopes. Truly fantastic time. Later a relaxing dip in the hot tub eased any sore musceles that I may have and enjoyed the rest of my day taking it easy at the condo.

I am very happy that I rode my bicycle to work for most of the summer as I truly believed it helped keep me from having sore muscels or injury.

I can really recommend visiting Keystone and the Key to the Rockies Condos (I have not been given anything for this endorsement). The condo was very clean and up to date regarding bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen. A great place to spend a day or two. Just take a look at the picture and you will understand why.

Good day. Picture copywrite by me.

Orange wine...

There's a new wine in town. Move over reds. Stand to the side whites. And I'm such a wine snob I won't even mention rosé (but I will agree with the writer of the article that they are becoming more trendy these days---at least for some people). Who needs trendy when what I desire is a good bottle of wine not "trendy."

Take a look at this article on orange wines. Although I will mention that I was under the impression that this process of leaving the grape skins on was how you obtain the rosé wines. Will have to look that up. So is orange another word for rosé? Will have to get a bottle and try it out.

I'm off to the white wine section to buy orange. Wish me luck.

Good day.

Winter sports...Snowshoe class.

Winter is here!!! I love all the seasons and winter has its appeal for me too.

REI provides free classes to those interested in different types of outdoor activities. I attended a women's snowshoe class. It was really very informative and the speaker (a woman) did a great job speaking and presenting the different aspects of snowshoeing. She is an avid snowshoe-er. I learned a lot and I learned that I am not far off the mark regarding the things I already have packed in my backpack. Now I just need to get out and get going.

First we learned about the equipment:

There are 3 types of snowshoes:
1. Recreational - flat terrain, easy trails
2. Adventure - hills, a little more difficult trails
3. Backcountry - very difficult trails ---these are the shoes you want as they will do the other two types of trails too. They are good for anything.

The speaker then went over the snowshoes, poles and footwear. The frames and bindings on the snowshoe. Preferences for poles and the different types of footwear used. What's a snow basket??? Who knew? I always had them but had no clue that's what they were called. Just google it and you'll know too.

We then went over the clothing and dressing in layers. The difference between silk, wool and synthetics. The first layers and the types of breathable clothing you want to be wearing. The mid-layers and then the outer-layers. Hats, gloves and accessories were next and the preferences of each and if you want a heavy or lighter garment.

Snowshoe techniques were next and this included etiquette, uphill, downhill, and traversing. She talked about deep snow and the difficulties in getting up when you fall in deep snow.

Safety was next. The Ten Essentials Plus 4. The main thing here was to be aware, don't be stupid, tell people where you are going. It also included, be smart about your physical ability and what it is. Don't try something that is out of your ability. Be smart about your environment, know your equipment and watch for winter hazards. Stay found and stay warm. Stay hydrated, take extra food & water, and stay alive. Take additional classes regarding altimeters, GPS, topo maps and how to use a compass and be familiar with any equipment you take with you, ie, know how to use it before you go. And last but not least, what's the weather going to be like and be prepared. Don't dress too warm and don't dress too light.

All in all, very informative on the promotion of safe travel in backcountry or wherever a person chooses to snowshoe. I learned that I have adventure snowshoes. That what I carry in my backpack are the Ten Essentials plus 2, just need to add 2. A great class, a personable and knowledgeable speaker and lots of good overall information regarding the winter sport of snowshoeing.

I feel much better about this type of travel as safety is my main concern. Check out the classes in your area and become more informed and safe.

Thank you REI for the free very informative class and just for women too. I liked it.

Good day and be safe whichever winter sport you choose.

Preserved Lemons...

Preserved Lemons article and instructions on how to's. This is a good article and very informative. Or google preserved lemons, lemon preserves or pickled lemons and read for yourself.

I had my first taste ever this weekend at a Chocolate Festival and these were yummy. There was a Moroccan spices and preserved lemons booth. Very smart of them and they were selling things just as much if not more than the chocolate. The vendor graciously opened a jar of the lemons to sample. I had never heard of them previously. Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas this year from me? These things are way too easy (even for me) to make. Although, the vendor said her recipe contained cold distilled olive oil and vinegar. She stressed using cold-distilled vs. hot distilled. And also stated that once the recipe is started that all you have to do is keep adding lemons to the jar when you take some out and keep it refrigerated. She also stressed using sea-salt too and make certain the lemons are completely covered with whatever liquid you choose to use. She also sliced the lemons in to 1/4 to 1/8 inch think wedges all the way through. Most of the recipes online don't do this. They either leave them whole with cuts and squeeze out the juice, and one recipe even just uses only the rind. One of the many uses she mentioned was for lemon-chicken.

I just like making things that are easy to do.

The article uses additional lemon juice or vinegar. I can't wait to get this done. Should be fun. I already have my home-made orange and peach vinegars ready to go.

Thank you Hunter Angler for the link.

Good day and happy preserving.

Broadway came visiting... Young Frankenstein.

Went to this play last night and had a wonderful time. I laughed and laughed and laughed. There was such talent. Lots of great singing and dancing. Lots of double meanings and innuendo. I wasn't disappointed at all. My best friend went the night before and she wished that she had watched the movie before attending. Personally, I did not leave with that feeling. I want to watch the movie after seeing this show. I had a great time.

Catch this show or any other in your area and support your local arts. I really recommend going to the theater, it's worth it.

Health and Wellness...

Vitamin D

8 Herbs You should be eating

Hello,
Today I am interested in providing info on health and wellness: the first article is on vitamin D. Interestingly enough there has been a rise in rickett's in the USA, since we seem to like to stay indoors and watch TV or play video games. It's really not a surprise is it?? We should all be outside in the sun more shouldn't we? At least for a little bit. And another question? How healthy is sunscreen? Personally, I don't like to use over a 15 spf.

The second article is on herbs. I just love using fresh herbs. They are a little more difficult to find in the winter unless you grow them inside. Fresh herbs make everything taste so much better.

and how about Cooking in cast iron. I've been told that if you cook your eggs in a cast iron skillet in the morning you actually obtain your daily iron requirement for the day.

Thank you yahoo.com for the links.
Good day and good health to you.
