Weaving - twill

Weaving is tricky. Especially twills. Lovely is the final product after wet finishing.

lovely lovely twills. first lavender-like colour is mostly herringbone with a bit of gooseye at the ends. Brown-all herringbone. yellow - all gooseye.

Ok, so what's tricky about twills??? well its the beat. If you beat it too hard then you might lose the pattern. See that word "might" in the last sentence? That's what makes it tricky. Also with twills you should always have a perfect 45% angle for it to truly look the way its supposed to look. You may think that obtaining a 45% angle is easy, its not. take a look at those towels -they're not.

If you look at the yellow dishtowel, I beat it a little too hard and after washing lost my gooseye pattern. So all that work, and now you can barely see the pattern, sigh.

For the brown - it turned out lovely. Beat - not too hard, not too light, might was just right.

For the lavender - my tension issues started to show. Which means I actually had tension issues for all the towels but didn't notice till the end. tension is important. Tension is your foundation for obtaining a good end product. Wet finishing (washing - either by hand or machine) brings it (it=all your work prior to this), together. Despite the little said here about wet-finishing, its important.

With all the critique, I am happy with the towels and the brown is gifted and gone.

I hate it when writers can't cut it out... even if it is good. I thought it was best on its own at first.

And now for my commentary:

This one statement is my belief as to why our great nation has HAD the prosperity it has. And for those of you who don't know your history, USA was founded by (or settled additionally) as there were already indigenous peoples living here, by those that were persecuted by their faith.

So what is interesting is that the immigrants lived by socialism and almost starved to death. Hence, the first Thanksgiving is because there were those that were lazy and wouldn't do the work and still got to receive the same portions as those that did. So, those that did quit doing too. Things had to change, and it finally came down to, if you don't work you don't get to eat, and things eventually turned around for the most part. You still have those that won't work, who can.

Back to the Thanksgiving part is the indigenous peoples took pity on the starving immigrants and helped them out (boy, I bet they're sorry they did that).

people say...

That's a load of bunk!!! and if you believe it, again, I have more ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.

My thought is, if you don't ever have hard times why would you need God??? You wouldn't.

And for those of you that say the statement, I know that you have never read your bible all the way through as the one thing it does promise is hard times. Please read Romans if you don't think so. Please look at the lives of the disciples after Christ is brutalized and murdered. Actually, just read the bible and you will know.

And of course, there are those that even if you have hard times you don't need God.

If someone says that to you, this means that they actually thought it was a problem, are informing you that it was, and making this suttle statement to you that it WAS A PROBLEM TO THEM.

Books - The Forgotton by David Baldacci

David Baldacci is one of my very favorite authors. At one point I had read all of his books and had to find someone else to read as he just couldn't out put enough for me. Wow, am I high maintenance or what???

Now it looks like there are about four of his books that I haven't read. The Forgotton was one of them. It was so good I finished it in two days. Needless to say it was well-written and no unecessary sentences. I hate it when authors can't wittle their work down because they have written a great thought. Anyhoo---this book is about modern-day slavery and if you believe it doesn't exist, I have some ocean front property to sell you.

I found it interesting that old well rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are being used for clandestine profiteering. The criminal mind is very innovative and these types of people are very ruthless when interrupted.

The characters are believable and I enjoyed the plot. If I had one bad thing to say about the book it would be the ending. As is its highly unlikely that the bad guy ended up in a prison camp in another country. People like that get away with the stuff that this guy did all the time. Why else would they do it??

Anyway the story makes you think about how slavery is still in existance and how we all look the other way. Check it out.
