I think one of the cruelest things I've had the unpleasant experience to witness while commuting to work was when another car tossed a small dog out their window and watched it get ran over by 3 cars. I had just moved over to the faster traveling lane when this happened and was diagonally behind them. It's made me sick to my stomach ever since and it's embarrassing to be part of the human race when cruelties like this abound amongst us. It was shocking to witness and your mind questions whether or not you've just seen what you've just seen. The dog in the road makes it real.
Perhaps the way the guys treat me isn't so bad? At least they're not throwing me out the window, although I bet they've thought about it.
Friday, Jan 25 2018 at work was fine. Did delineation with K and J2. Once again, K cannot seem to understand that since J2 was driving the attenuator and giving us coverage we should have been working on the mainline. He informed me that since he chose on/off ramps and told M2 what we'd be working on that is what we were going to do and that was it. Oh boy, it was so difficult to drive by delineation posts that needed fixed I just wanted to scream, STOP!!! I don't know how to finagle K into thinking it's his idea when I want to get some additional work done. Instead we drove around willy-nilly to the on/off ramps. I did at one point let him know that I had to fix a post that was bothering me and essentially opened my door to get out before he stopped the vehicle so he would have to stop. That was the morning and in the afternoon, J2 and I did a pleasant days afternoon working both the mainline and the on/off ramps because he felt the same as myself and unknown to me had mentioned the same thing to K. Yay, finally someone with a little sense.
I just don't get it. No matter.
On another note, I have an interview for the same company in a different region and hope to transfer. I figure I will be treated similarly but at least if I'm going to be treated mean I won't have to deal with the two hour commute everyday it'll be fifteen minutes instead. Crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath as I've already met the men in charge of this area and I know from how they treated me when I introduced myself they want nothing to do with hiring a female in this career in their area. Wish me luck because I'll need a miracle.
That's my thoughts for now.
Send me all the news.

Dear Friend...
this week has not been pleasant at work. It would be a miracle if any one of them has spoken two words to me.
Tuesday, Since the guys weren't speaking to me I found something to do, which was shovel out my parking space. I used a hand shovel to shovel as the snow has been pushed into deep ruts around our shop which make it a tripping hazard. It's incredible that the guys just wait for the sun to melt it all and ironic that there are a dozen plows around and I still had to use a hand shovel. The guys refused to move their vehicles so I couldn't shovel theirs. No matter I was out of their way all day and minimal was said to me. As I shoveled I grumbled how after 7 months I still don't know how to do my job do to part of the issue that no one will speak to me. J1 is the only one who has taken time with me and done some thorough training because he figures take the time to show me the right way and then he won't have to keep showing me. J2 has taken some time too. I spoke to C1 before leaving that if he would let me know what he needed done that I was happy to do it to just let me know otherwise I would find my own thing to do such as the useless work I did this day. He said ok. This day was a long sad day.
Wednesday, It's as though K heard me grumble about not knowing my job and no one taking the time to speak to me and show me. He decided to take time and train me and actually speak to me about how they wash trucks and sanders and show me. Finally. The other guys hauled slicer to our sand shed. At the end of the day, I asked M2 what the plan was for the next day. He was abrupt and said he did not know he's been in class all week and what did I want to do. Say what??? How mean. I've been here long enough to know that's not what they do ask the FNG what they want to do. He's been with C1 for the past two hours cleaning the supply room too, so he would already know. I informed him he needed to get with C1. This day was a long sad day.
Thursday, cleaned trucks and sanders again in the morning. We have several trucks that are not working correctly and a Mechanic that doesn't like to work or work alone. Unfortunately he doesn't get a lot done and his boss is ok with this. In the morning he was busy elsewhere and in the afternoon we all left to do debris and M2 and C2 went to the Main Office, which means the Mechanic got very little accomplished since no one was there to admire his work. Several of the guys had family emergencies in the afternoon so I got switched to large debris clean up with K. I was glad to get out of the shop. Another sad long day.
Although, I got to end the day super funny for me. I got to ask C2 a really stupid question. I always think it's so funny when I get to ask him a really stupid question. He looks at me so incredulously like I have a wart in the middle of my face or that he cannot believe I got hired to work here in the first place. I just solidify his reasoning to not speak to me, which is a good thing.
I look forward to Friday and no snow.

Tangle art
Went to Zentangle club this week. Missed last month and I must state I really missed this group of great people. Would love to have my leader come to work and have a team building day. It would be interesting to see what the guys tangles would look like---if they would even attempt it would be a miracle. Just sayin'

Dear Friend...
I didn't believe I would have much to share as we are still on snow shift and perhaps the following may be a bit petty on my part, so be it. I'll be the first to raise my hand and say, "hello, my name is "L," and I'm petty.
Got to work and was informed that I will not be driving "Sonny Boy." Usually, drivers stay with the same truck they had the prior shift. I got Sonny Boy ready for J1, filling washer fluid, hydraulic oil, slicer, clean windows, decent inside the cab and so J1 stayed in SB. In fact, each driver is supposed to do this for the next shift driver. I was VERY disgruntled to find that had not been done for me on the different truck I was to drive. Q was the culprit and Q is a very good friend with MB the lead worker. Oh, Yay (insert extreme sarcasm here).
Unfortunately for me, I ran into MB as I was taking care of all of this business and informed him of same. And unfortunately for me, I informed him that his buddy Q was the "considerate" driver. Uh-oh, MB took offense to me stating that Q was his buddy. Geez, I cannot catch a break here. I mean really???? He's going to take offense to the truth because they are very good friends and are constantly calling each other "buddy."
WHATEV.
The night went fairly decent. I plowed Founders most of the night. At one point, I got to plow with "The Three Amigos" - C1, C2 and K. It was pretty fun to be in the half V formation and plow the snow all at once off the Interstate. At one point C2 made a comment of how I didn't keep up, but I am NOT going to run over 2 cars just to keep up.
Got sent back to Founders after that and then all of a sudden, I was away from my radio --- bathroom break--- and C1 is trying to find me. Sheesh, for 2 hours they couldn't care less where I am or how I am and then I get tossed back to the Interstate for "clean up." Which was silly because these guys already had it covered and so I got to follow K and pick up his winrow, I'm happy to do this but there was no winrow to pick up so I wasted my plow blades on nothing. It's like they thought I had nothing to do, meanwhile I'm pleasantly working my @ss off plowing Founders. It was strange and I said so --- when will I ever BE QUIET??? I got tossed back to Founders after I voiced my confusion.
When the day shift came in I made certain my truck was all set for Q. I even put slicer in it, which I hope I don't regret because if Q doesn't use that truck, which he's probably hating because I touched it then the slicer gets to be cleaned out by me. I tried to speak to him about the truck but he brushed me off. I think I can read the signs that MB has already spoken to him. Great.
That's all for now.

Dear Friend...
last night was snow shift and once again it was a shift without snow. sigh. It will be the day guys that get to see some "action." We were called in because it was going to and did mist/rain and product needed to be put down so that it would eliminate/help with the flash freezing issue. I put down 6 tons of slicer (sand/salt mix).
I got to drive "Sonny Boy" (1417) I don't care for the truck that was assigned me 1320. 1417 is a decent "little" midrange that has a manual transmission, which means double-clutching...this truck is a good truck to finish learning that in as the transmission is a smooth transition when shifting without the clutch. "Grandma" (1910 - located in Fredrick, although we borrowed it for Ned) was very contentious. The driver had to get that one perfect or grinding gears was what you heard. I noticed even the guys in Ned had a hard time with her.
J1 came in to re-leave me at 3am. I love (that's "love" as in fond of) J1. He's got the worst sailor's mouth on him and that's J1. I like him so much because he's brutally honest and he treated me like a person from the get go and wasn't afraid of what the guys thought if he helped me out. He figured the more he helped me out the better I would do my job and the less he would have to help me out in the future. Yep, that's the attitude I'm talking about that we need more.
Back on snow shift tonight, and I'll see some "action" as well. Unfortunately there will be winds up to 25 miles per hour and out east up to 55 mph, which means ugly blizzard conditions for the far east and not great conditions for us. I can handle snow, blowing snow is unpleasant even in a snow plow and it quickly freezes the road.
That's all for now.

Things I don't understand...
I don't understand why the State of Colorado is still paying the bill for alcoholic beverages at state paid conferences.
and yes it is true and I'm tired of it.
and I am certain that we are not the only state nor Federal government...
Just sayin...

Dear Friend...
I worked snowshift Sunday and Monday nights even though there was no snow, sigh. The Denver area is really spoiled not to mention the I-70 mountain corridor. Oiy-vey, "if you only knew what I do?" (said in a sing-song voice).
Monday night I got to clean a truck that I didn't even dirty and then I didn't get all the slicer out so I got the opportunity to re-do it. ugh. All I see is ton's and tons of water going down the drain, thinking all the while of so many places that have drought or no running water at all. I cringe as I wash and wash and wash because the slicer ruins the metal and fiberglass that the tandems are made from, so we clean them and then re-clean them each time they are used.
I got a "talking to" by the boss (TMIII) about my filthy mouth/mind comment and how it bothers me, so it bothers him. The "talk" went ok. He spoke with the TMII and I have mixed emotions about that part. I begged him not to and told him I was overly tired. He said too late. I like the TMIII, he's a decent boss. Both agreed not to talk to anyone but I can already tell they did. I have mixed emotions and life goes on and on and on. Life at work is definitely a learning process.
Worked on being less "useless" as we fixed guardrail. Several areas were hit because the last storm was an ice storm for the day shift and the cement flash froze. I tell ya, asphalt is so much better for your driving in the cold weather. Don't know who's bright idea cement is but it's horrible in so many ways. Anyway, learning guardrail, it's interesting and these guys get it done quickly so traffic can get moving quickly again. The ends are very heavy along with the rail sections. Thank goodness for me working out twice weekly as it's the only thing that saves me, and sometimes it's still not enough.
Sadly no "art" from me.
That's all for now. Send me all the news.

Dear Friend...
night shift was ok for the second night in a row. There was still a lot of chatter and this night Q decided that since their loud talking voices weren't enough to deal with during the first night; tonight he turned on the radio real loud too. To be fair, I believe the music was so that he would stay awake and gave his mind something to distract him to keep him from wanting to sleep. I was smart and had decided to bring ear plugs. Lucky I did as the speaker feels like its right by my ear. I put the plugs in. At one point, Q noticed the ear plugs and did finally turn the music down plus Q and K seemed to have run out of steam and were a small fraction quieter and less obnoxious this night.
When I arrived to work the day shift was still present and we all stood around in a circle discussing the night's assignments. After awhile, the conversation seemed to be circling so I went to Q, as he is the night lead this night and last night and he's barely been here a year (which is confusing too as K has been here longer, whatev) and quietly asked how many bags of cold mix he wanted on the one-ton. He said 10. I wanted something to do without having to stand around feeling awkward. I put my earplugs in, as the cold mix is loud when it hits the metal bed of the truck, and start putting the cold mix on the one-ton happy to have busy work on my own and out of everyone's way. But wait!! All of a sudden I have three guys "helping" me. Sh*t!!!
I finally find something I can do to be helpful, not useless or braindead, and out of everyone's way, not getting "the look" from them at how pathetic I am, and they take it away from me. ugh. I am certain they mean well. Most likely they feel sorry for me, once again, because I can barely lift these cold mix bags and then to lift them up to get them into the bed of the one-ton, looks even worse when I do it. Actually, these bags are "lighter" now since going to the gym and working out at least twice a week has really helped.
Side note: it still amazes me that I survived Ned without being killed as I am a lot stronger now and strength is your dearest friend around this place.
As we load, the discussion turns back to the night assignments just discussed and MS jokingly says, "Wait, I feel as though we just had this conversation right over there, wasn't anyone listening?" Nodding my head, yes, I laugh and say,"yep, that's why I wear earplugs because it doesn't matter if I have them on as everyone has them whether or not they're wearing them." (there was a previous complaint made about me always wearing my earplugs).
We drove up to Patrol 08, picking up large debris as we went and looking for the marked potholes that C2 and J2 marked during the day for us to fill tonight. Don't know why K is ok with multi-tasking with the guys but when it's my idea, it's like I have horns growing out of my head for such a stupid idea.
The night goes decently we fix delineation during the first part of the night pulling posts fixing buttons and potholing in the latter part. I drove the attenuator without the plow behind the one-ton for safety coverage as Q and K fill potholes. We don't get to start potholing until about 11pm. There is lots of traffic until then and even at this hour the traffic is steady. Saw an interesting wreck, no one hurt. Other people getting a ticket. What are you people doing up???!!! Please go to bed.
That's all for now. Have Monday off for a holiday and the new week should be interesting. The boss want's to speak to me on Tuesday, because I was a stupid idiot and told him that the filthy mouths really bothers me. When will I ever learn??? sigh.
Oh well, complacency irritates me and how will things change for the better? Someone has to speak up, even though painful as you are treated badly for doing so and unfairly marked for life as "difficult."

Dear Friend...
worked 3p to 3a for a snowshift with no snow. sigh.
Had to deal with Q and K. They think they are so funny and there was a constant negative (not) funny running commentary for most of the 12 hours between the two. Sadly they both like to talk. I don't know how I'm going to deal with this for the second night in a row (somebody's gonna end up crying). Occasionally I was included in the conversation which would always startle me. I wish they'd cut that out, trying to include me or even be nice to me (that ship sailed a long time ago), because it just freaks me out. And last night it startled me while I was drinking my water that it choked me and then I never got over that and coughed the whole night, which made them think I was sick. Maybe that's a good thing and they will find something for me to do by myself tonight as they won't want to get my "illness." Every time they would ask me something and I would answer they would then tell me how wrong I am. I don't know why they ask and this confuses me to no end plus waists a lot of time in my mind.
They are so filthy mouthed and so filthy minded that it's shocking and embarrassing that they consider themselves "Christians." The whole shop is. It's quite confusing to me and unbelievable. It makes me speechless and causes me great, great sorrow, which is very draining. I know this sounds strange but the sorrow is so great that it radiates through my body full and complete almost to the point that it's touchable. I wish that they could experience this deep sorrow that I feel for each one and become the people of substance that I know is in them instead of the filth that they constantly present. They are so mean and their meanness is so great that it's almost tangible.
I spoke to my boss about it and now we get to have a meeting. Oh boy, it should be interesting how that will go over and how I'll be treated after the meeting. No more doors opened for me (which I didn't ask for) but was their way of treating me "better," which is laughable I don't need the door opened for me or held for me I just need to be a person.
Work life is going to get interesting. I don't know what I'm doing here. What am I doing here????
Wish me luck. Send me all the news.
Love,
L

Dear Friend...
I thought of this:
ALL DAY TODAY!
Today at work we did delineation and usually (all the time) I am the passenger and someone else drives. Today was different. For some reason MS decided that I should drive, sigh. I think I got stuck with MS for punishment because of my comment on Friday. No matter. MS likes to work and so do I.
Delineation is the green posts with the clear or amber buttons at the top. MS kept having to say stop and I kept having to back up all day because I could not for the life of me get the spinning off my mind. (BFL wool and silk blend, yum) It was a day-dreamer's day for me. I don't like being distracted like that at work and usually I am so good. We were productive (except for my day-dreaming). Lots of buttons replaced and 25 posts pulled and replaced with new posts and buttons.
In fact, I'm so used to being a passenger that several times I grabbed for the back passenger door to get in. Wouldn't that have been funny. LOL I see it in my head now, me sitting in back waiting for the driver, who is supposed to be me.
Anyway, happy spinning, and once I publish this post off to my Turkish spindle I go.
Send me all the news.

Dear Friend...
I have mixed emotions over the past week of work.
Monday, Jan 1 - was great as it was a holiday and I didn't have to go to work.
Tuesday, Jan 2 - I got "set up" by MS to pick up and deliver supplies. I was told that KOA would load the supplies into my tandem. Yeah, right. I had 12 pickup tires that I got to load. Thank goodness it wasn't truck tires for the tandems that would have been laughable. The pickup tires are heavy but those truck tires are really heavy.
Wednesday and Thursday, I ended up picking trash with a couple of the guys at Castle Pines to get the highway clean for a funeral that sadly was happening as a police officer lost his life over the New Year's weekend and we would be shutting down the Interstate for the procession. I don't mind picking trash so much as I can do this on my own. The guys keep a close watch on each other to see who picks the most trash. ugh. I do mind all the alcoholic bottles on the on and off ramps. You get to drive with those people too. Plus, humans have a lot of nasty trash that they just throw out the window. yuck. I wish the police would start enforcing the littering laws that we have.
Friday morning was the funeral and the Interstate is shut down from 8:15 am to 11am. It was very moving to see more than 2000 police vehicles and first responder vehicles. The fire department sets up large USA flags between two ladder trucks at the main bridge decks (overpasses) that the procession passes under, which is really cool to see.
It's ironic that it took 5 guys to shut down the northbound straightaway on-ramp and just me for the northbound curly-que on ramp, which are right across from each other, but whatev.
In the afternoon we picked more trash at the southbound Lincoln to Ridgegate exit. After that heading back we picked up large trash items. At one point MS pulls over and he is pulling over so that I will have to get out and pick up the item, which I didn't mind. MS gets all snarky and says, "no, I'll get it because it looks heavier than 50 lbs." Sheesh, I always feel like I'm in the way here. sigh.
Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive, but I have made the comment before that I was surprised that the job description for this position limits the weight to 50 lbs. Make one comment that the guys don't like and they remember it forever. We have all lifted over this weight, including me. Although it's like wrangling a cat when I do and certainly not as easy for me as the guys since they have 30 percent more upper body muscle.
As we are driving along the talk turns to MS staying as he wants overtime and the rest of us are leaving. I make the comment to MS to not run into any garage doors. As the last time he worked on his own for overtime he ran into a garage door and put it out of commission for a couple of weeks. MB and C2 lightly laugh at my comment and this should have been a major clue to me that I was in deep doodoo for this comment with MS. I thought it was really funny. He firmly informs me that I have not been at the shop long enough to make such a comment. GRRR, once again only a man can make such comments and get away with it. I inform him that most everyone hasn't been here for very long. He informs me that one year is the magic number. I'm betting he would have chosen a different time period depending on when the last guy had arrived. Whatever.
We get back to the shop and MK asks if MS is staying and we all say yes that MS is staying and MK says well lock up the keys to all the inside equipment. I'm the only one that gets the joke as MS says oh, now we have to lock up the keys to the inside equipment too now??? MK and I look at each other and MK says no its a joke. MS still doesn't get it or doesn't hear him and I repeat that it was a joke. MS informs MK that he (MS) doesn't think that MK is funny either. MK says what?? I inform him that I got in trouble for my comment to MS. MK just laughs.
That's life in a nutshell this week. Two ironic issues and me still wondering what I'm doing here and I keep reminding myself that I have a good plan. Only time will tell.
Send me all the news.
