Fire in Colorado Springs...

This was Tuesday night from my home (currently safe), June 26 and no relief in sight. Flying W Ranch is gone. The Air Force Academy is evacuated and threatened.

The stress everyone is feeling is very noticeable. I am concerned for those who have lost everything and concerned for those who will lose everything. This fire is not stopping anytime soon. This fire was started by arson--such hate.

Its a shame that the Obama administration cut the fire budget. There used to be 44 C130 airplanes to fight fires and now there are only 8. We have 5 here, there are other fires in other states that need help too.

There are no words to describe how tragic this has become.

Proverbs in a Year...June 21.

Proverbs 17:19-21

19 Whoever loves a quarrel loves sin;
whoever builds a high gate invites destruction.

20 One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper;
one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble.

21 To have a fool for a child brings grief;
there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.

The first part of verse 19 is self explanatory. I think we've all met people in our lives who seem to like to do this either by starting something themselves or by taking everything as a personal affront. As for the second part, the "whoever builds a high gate invites destruction" John Gill's Commentary states that the "builds" is liken to boasting and being prideful. Being prideful certainly does invite destruction, I have fallen myself. Its very humbling. I try to stay away from this as much as possible.

Verse 20 is for your own interpretation. I believe you'll do just as well without my comments.

I did read John Gill's commentary for this and found that Mr. Gill went on to state that this also applies to people who say one thing and mean another. I have recently ran into someone like this and it is very frustrating, although they have finally become fairly predictable to me --- as I only have to apply the opposite to the meaning of what was said.

Verse 21 - I do like John Gill's commentary for this verse. It states exactly how I feel about my own DD. I find my concern for her is uppermost in my thoughts regarding her choice for no ambition and paying her own way. It saddens me greatly. I try not to think about it as it is her own choice and the way she wants to be. Such a waste when she can do and be so much.

Proverbs in a Year...June 20 & Mark 8:36

Happy first day of summer!

I liked the verse for today on BibleGateway.com and thought I'd share:
“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” Mark 8:36 NIV

Proverbs 17:17-18

17 A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

18 One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge
and puts up security for a neighbor.

I like both verses today.
Verse 17 to me means that during times of prosperity or poverty a true friend is there. John Gill's commentary speaks of Christ born for all of us for each individuals adversity. You'll have to read the commentary to truly get the gist.

Verse 18 speaks to all of us. We are each to help one another. The bible stresses in many places that "helping" does not mean in any way to go into debt for someone else. Unwise is this choice.

I recall one instance in my life when a very manipulative Mr. X obtained money from me. Had I only known to quote this verse I could have saved myself some problems. Never ever be forced into something even by a loved one. If this takes place, the one forcing the issue is in the wrong. Its so difficult to stand up to those for whom we care, and who are being hateful, isn't it??

Oh, I can still hear the whining and cajoling of Mr. X. It makes me cringe that I caved. It didn't make him any better off. It certainly made me worse off. Hence, heed verse 18 above.

Proverbs 17:14-15

14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent —
the Lord detests them both.

I like these verses. Verse 14 reminds me to really think before I speak up. As for verse 15, I think we all have a sense of offense when this happens.

I really like both verses today. I am certain that all of us have someone that comes to mind regarding foolish people that we currently know or have met. It's interesting to note that verse 12 suggests that it's easier to deal with an angry momma bear than a fool. Makes me chuckle inside at the irony.

Proverbs 17:9-11

9 Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.

10 A rebuke impresses a discerning person
more than a hundred lashes a fool.

11 Evildoers foster rebellion against God;
the messenger of death will be sent against them.

Say What???
Verse 9: John Gill commentary states that when you truly forgive a person never brings up the offense brought against you and this is done with the deepest sense of love. If on the other hand, a person keeps bringing up an offense over and over again you separate yourself from your close friend and most likely you will no longer be friends again. ----my paraphrase of the commentary. See for yourself what you derive.

Verse 10--I get that an honest rebuke will be accepted by a wise person and if you are a fool it would take more than 100 lashes to get the same point.

Verse 11--gives me the chills. I suppose we all have in our mind what the messenger of death looks like and personally, I don't really want to meet up with it until necessary.

Proverbs 16:31-33

31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained in the way of righteousness.

32 Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the Lord.

Verse 31 reminds me of many friends that I have who are having a difficult time growing older. Personally, I am enjoying it (except when I am with these folks). I love getting older. Its been the best times of my life and this verse gives me something new to say to people in that their gray hair is a crown of splendor. I like it (I will admit I don't like gray hair).

Verse 32: And Patience is always a virtue, Yes??

Verse 33: reminds me that my new mantra is - "have faith, have faith, havefaith, havefaith." In fact, I was just repeating my mantra this morning to myself as I went for a walk. I was also sending out universal healthy love to everyone too. Silly, I know. I believe in energy and what you send out, you may get back tenfold (that's my secret hope anyway---at least for this instance). Please be kind to me in your decisions oh, Our Lord Your God (so selfish of me to think only of myself---sigh).

And this is the end of Proverbs 16.
and as a reminder here is verse 1 --- I liked it a lot and felt it worth repeating.

To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.

Knitting...

Charming Chiendents



I did finally complete my Crosswired socks (designer Wendy Gaal--love this designer)--not happy with my socks but they'll do. I like everyone else's tho. :)

I really got into my Chiendents by Rose Hiver- great designer. They are a lovely lime green --wool, nylon, silk mixture--yummeee!!

and am doing a solid sock mystery from YarnYenta--another great designer in the same wool mix as the Chiendents only a lovely butter colour. The yarn is Knitters Brewing Company.

I really want to be knitting scarves or shawls or try a sweater but the muse is currently on socks. sigh.
At least I'm happy to be knitting again.

Instead of Knitting...i've been doing this.

I lost my knitting muse and had to find other creative vents. I love origami and the picture is of an Origami Lotus Bag. They are really cool. I am a terrible seamstress and its nice that this pattern is very forgiving and hides all your bad spots. I also made matching square lavender sachets which are forgiving too. I purchased my lavender from Alderwood Quilts --link at the side on my blog.

Just sew two squares right sides together; turn right side out; sew 1/4 top-stitch around edge; pull sides together and sew together half-way up; turn down corners and tack down and put in your draw string and viola!!! --- a Lotus bag.

I like that when not in use it lays flat. My samples started with an 18 inch square and it ends up being about a nine inch bag. I think next time I am going to try a 25 inch square. This is a great way to get rid of scraps and you can use the bag as a gift bag too. Note: I did not line my fabric. I'm a lazy sewer, I dislike lining but only because its an extra step.

I have since learned that if you sew the sides in about two inches at an angle this will make your bag a box and stand up.

5 Love Languages...contd.---Physical Touch.

I have continued in my reading of the 5 Love Languages. Physical Touch is the last, and certainly not least. The author stresses that uncontrolled and unwanted touch is not a love language. Also that uncontrolled sexuality is not love and eventually boring. Just take a look at society today to know that this is true.

Appropriate touch is a blessing and can be a wonderful gesture with both giver and receiver.

The next chapters encourage the reader to discover your own love language and how to discover the love languages of others. First, being observant and watching how you react and how others react is very helpful. The author gives specific behaviors to look for and to recognize how others may wish to be treated. Keep in mind when others around you don't have the same love language it may be more difficult to communicate with them. One suggestion is to just ask: let the person know that you would like to do something for them and ask them what would they really like.

This book is a wonderful learning tool and one to keep and re-read. I have enjoyed learning about my love language and trying to recognize the languages of others. I plan on implementing some of the suggestions and seeing where will I go. It should be interesting.

I enjoy how the author of Proverbs instructs you on what not to do and also gives you instruction on what to do. So often I hear people or myself say, "don't do this" or "I am tired of this" and do not give any help with what would be a good idea to do or what they would really like.
