I think we all need to be able to recognize a troublemaker or the villain, and sometimes we tend to be these people in our own lives. Keep watch so that you don't destroy yourself.

Unclutter...accountability update Jan 30.
Hello.
I have two updates to impart:
1. the bedroom table has been cleaned up and I am very pleased with it.
2. I used the rest of my savings to pay off more of my debt. And even better I have not used the credit card for the month. Yeah me. Boy, is that hard to do. I had no idea what a crutch it was for me.
very exciting stuff. I am very pleased on both counts and am looking forward to uncluttering more in my room. and its exciting to see the debt disappear.
What have you been working on? I hope its good stuff.

I thought it would be helpful to give you an actual definition of the word:
FOLLY: : 1. lack of good sense or normal prudence and foresight
2a : criminally or tragically foolish actions or conduct b obsolete : evil, wickedness; especially : lewd behavior
3: a foolish act or idea
4: an excessively costly or unprofitable undertaking
5: an often extravagant picturesque building erected to suit a fanciful taste

My interpretation of the above: you have put up security for another - nothing wrong there. we are supposed to help each other out. Looks though, that something has gone wrong, such as, the neighbor has forgotten that he needs to repay the loan. The following verses speak that we are to humbly implore the neighbor to help us out by repaying the security given, thereby being freed. Good luck with that.

This brings us to the end of Chapter 5. Did you understand that its not really the "adulterous woman" whose steps lead to the grave but YOUR own? When you make such choices? I hope that you understand that, its YOU.
Make good choices people. Be Strong. Embrace discipline no matter how difficult. Let go your ego and embrace humility. Good luck.

Unclutter...accountability update.
Soooo, its taking me a bit longer to get uncluttered. I do have an excuse, keep in mind its just an excuse and not a very good one, but.... I don't feel well. There ya go. I think all this uncluttering is making me ill. haha ---just kidding.
Previously in our Un-c story...I uncluttered my vhs console. yeah me.
Last night I cleaned my bathroom shelves. No, not brave enough for pictures this time as I didn't like the last ones I posted. Makes me look like the slob that I am and I am not willing to visit that issue just yet. Maybe after all the uncluttering happens.
I must confess I once again, knit first, and then uncluttered. I really think I have it backwards by rewarding first and then uncluttering??? No matter, the uncluttering part did eventually get done and the shelves look terrific. There were 3 of them and it took 30 minutes. I feel better too. I also got rid of lots of cold medicine that was expired (1989). oooh, should I even write that??? Did they even have cough medicine back then???
Next up the dreaded bedroom...duh,duh, duhnnn... wish me luck. I don't feel so well...

Today ends chapter 4 and "getting wisdom at any cost." Would you obtain wisdom at any cost?
I find that most people are reluctant to do so, including myself at times. We all have our lovely reasoning as to why we won't act or do certain things. Such as being responsible or helping someone. We continue to blame our own choices on someone else. Placing the blame on that person for whatever unpleasant outcomes that happen to us. Quickly forgetting that we actually had a choice and the unwise choice we made is the cause of our own unpleasantness. We forget that there are boundaries that should not be crossed and are angry at others for not allowing us to cross over the line. and then blaming that person (incorrectly) for our own disappointment.
Proverbs 4:20-27
20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.

and health to one’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,

Chinese Year of the Dragon.
Its the Year of the Dragon. Known to be the luckiest year in the Chinese calendar. It is also the only year that is based on a legendary animal (ie - not real; ie - fictional).

I was also reading about the elements here too. I happen to be born in the Year of the Dragon (no surprise there)under the element of wood. Hence my reading about elements.
I am also a Scorpio, water sign and part of my elemental make up that when you get to my "evil of man" it states that falsehood is part of the water sign make up, except and I quote,... "the sign Scorpio. Scorpios are self-confident, intelligent, and strong-willed....they will tell it like it is - whether you like it or not makes no difference to them." I just love that. It's so true, at least in my case, I definitely tell it like it is. There are lots of times when I should keep my mouth closed. I am getting better at being reticent. Yeah me.
Anyway, this is all just "fun" stuff for me, ie, I don't take it seriously. Love the dragon picture. It would make a coolio tattoo wouldn't it???

Unclutter...accountability update.

vhs stand - after
ShelfOf the four items I wanted to unclutter this week one is or was my vhs stand. I decided I had better start working on at least one of the four projects before it was the end of the week and I have to do them all in one day. UGH
This also becomes counterproductive to the uncluttering since the idea is to do an item a day so its not so overwhelming and then it makes me give up. Remember one item only takes about 15-20 minutes and you feel better.
The project I tackled last night was the vhs stand. I was even brave enough to take before and after pictures. I also felt so good about it that I uncluttered and cleaned up a shelf that had been neglected too. I probably shouldn't write this but the before picture has about 2-3 inches of papers that needed uncluttering. Most of the papers got to be thrown out. I have no idea why I was saving them.
I even timed it: 8:13pm to 8:52pm.
And I am also betting that most of you think the vhs stand and shelf are still cluttered---you have your opinion, I have mine. They look much better and I'm happy and I feel less cluttered.
And that is a red-tailed hawk feather on the shelf, which has an interesting story about how I happened to receive it. Long story short---it was gifted to me by the very bird it belonged. As it flew overhead it dropped the feather down to my very feet. Pretty cool.
I must confess I did knit until 8:13pm and then chastised myself for knitting first before getting my goal complete. Must remember to do goal and then reward myself.

The verses above provide wise counsel. I know for myself I have fallen into saying things about people that I have no idea if they are true or not. I have an overactive imagination and need to keep my mouth shut. Shame on me. I suppose that is what living by grace and forgiveness is about.
The saying, "if you can't say something good about someone, then don't say anything at all" is very appropriate.

The verses above provide wise counsel. I know for myself I have fallen into saying things about people that I have no idea if they are true or not. I have an overactive imagination and need to keep my mouth shut. Shame on me. I suppose that is what living by grace and forgiveness is about.

I'm a Foodie...Mexican-American.
I love the presentation of food and also enjoy taking pictures of same so I had to take a picture of what I ate last night. The restaurant is Casa Fiesta located in Monument. Its a nice venue to take in a meal.
My friend was being funny with his had gesture since I mentioned I love to take pictures of food when its a good presentation. So its appropriate that he is showing that we love this food. Or maybe he is showing his appreciation for the Margarita instead??? It was delish too.
It was a lovely mess of food. But what is going on with that taco???

Knitting... Dragon Shawl.
Happy dance for me today. I finished a wip (work in progress) that's been on my needles since March 2, 2010 and finished today January 17, 2012. Two Years!!! and very apropos, as Jan 23 begins the Chinese New Year and it is the Year of the Dragon and I was born in the Year of the Dragon.
Do I get to count this as un-cluttering my knitting?
Had to post a picture even though its unblocked. MMario is the designer. He is a fabulouso lace designer. I do recommend that you do a bit of lace knitting before trying any of his designs as they are quite advanced. Hence the reason I took so long as this is one of my first choices after doing one lace scarf. I will say that after putting it away and getting more experience in the lace knitting department this design was more manageable.
The yarn is Knitters Brewing Company yarn and I purchased 3 skeins and almost didn't have enough. I even went down 2 needle sizes too.
Its done and I can't wait to block and wear it.

the last verse is what caught my eye today. I can trip over anything and be snared in stuff that no one noticed was there until I came along. I realize that this book is mostly speaking of the intangible (decisions), sometimes the tangible gets in the way too (clutter). Make good choices people.

Unclutter....love this cartoon.
I have slowed down on my uncluttering and am disappointed so thought I should write down specific spaces to unclutter for this week so I am more accountable. I am still not brave enough to take a picture first.
Places to unclutter:
1. top of vhs console in living room - yes I still have vhs tapes. don't judge.
2. top of waterfall dresser in bedroom.
3. top of waterfall mirror vanity in bedroom.
4. skirted table in bedroom.
5. metal shelves in bathroom.
Whew, I am exhausted just writing and thinking about those areas.

Unclutter update...#1 get out of debt.
Must have faith, must have faith. This is my new mantra.
I have taken half of my savings and paid off a portion of my debt. I plan to take the other half of my savings and pay more debt down this week. Baby steps for me.
Side note: my refrigerator is loudly protesting its age and my washing machine is making strange noises.
Faith must have faith and hope that both will last a year or more (crossing fingers, salt over left shoulder, what else for luck?). Besides Dave Ramsey stated in his book most emergencies are less than $1000.00. Must have faith that this is true.

Proverbs in a Year...Jan 10.
The title caption that BibleGageway puts on this chapter is "Wisdom Bestows Well-Being."
This chapter has two very famous verses at verses 5 & 6. I believe you will definitely recognize them.
I like verse 3 as it states "let love and faithfulness never leave you," to "bind them around your neck, write them... on your heart"
We should all keep love and faithfulness close to our hearts especially during those tough times when we find ourselves questioning everything or unhappy and angry with life. I find it interesting that love AND faithfulness are so very important.

Unclutter update #3 again.
The home/life is coming along swimingly. I recently unclutterd the kitchen table it had two reusable sacks full of my homegrown yellow pear tomatoes that I grew and they are now past saving (I meant to put them in a spicy relish---but alas I had no energy to do this) so I took them out and composted them, and washed up one of the sacks. I also washed the bathroom ceiling in prep for painting (I sanded it last week).
Silly me part of my unclutter last week was to clean my stove top burner and put in new liners. Last night I made hot chocolate and while I was hanging up clothing it boiled over so had to clean up and put in a new liner. I always do that when I cook, find something else to do while cooking, hence the reason everything gets burned.
On a good note the hot-cocoa was salvageable and delish. Yeah me.

Do Gooder...Unclutter update.
For my Do Gooder today I woke up at 4am, no that isn't a typo. Knit for an hour and then took the dog for a walk. I am thinking mostly the good thing was for the dog but I got to knit too (and a walk). A win-win situation for both the dog and I. It was a bit chilly this morning but well worth the good it did for both of us.

I can't make up my mind if I want to call it de-clutter or un-clutter...hmmm. I don't know which I like best. I suppose I should stick with un---since that's what I started with. I un-cluttered the fireplace area last night. It was looking atrocious (no pics--not brave enough yet). I kept saving all the junk mail to burn, but we haven't had any cold days lately. So I packed it all up and its ready to go to the recycling center. Packing it all up and sweeping up was great and it took about 30 minutes to pack and sweep. I feel better already.

Hi-dee ho there! Wanted to give you an update on King Lemuel. The experts believe he is most likely Solomon. Back in those days people went by many different names and this makes research of history very interesting indeed. The experts also attribute Proverbs 31 to King Lemuel's mother. That it was from her encouragement that he write Proverbs 31, which for this time period to include anything about women is very unusual.
If Lemuel is Solomon then Bethsheba is Solomon's mother and "she was known more for scandal than that of virtue" (Grace to You link) Ironic, yes???
The Grace to You link states that possibly Bethsheba taught Solomon about Ruth, who was a grandmother and an incredible woman for her time, and he may have been thinking of Ruth for this verse. Please take a look at the book of Ruth for a very fascinating read. She really was terrific. (it really is a quick read and won't take you long).

Beautiful writing, isn't it??? Wisdom is always calling to us. She is always available to each of us. She's always right there. She is not out of reach we are just out of touch and use our own reasoning for our own follies.
The key to Wisdom is to pay attention and heed the call.

Even Be More With Less has uncluttering as something to do for this year too! Great minds think alike.
I read the "rules" and I like the inventory thing. Will have to make that into a spreadsheet for myself. Keep in mind I think its ok to keep some of the decorative items even tho it still counts as clutter. I also like how its called clutterfat.
I balk at doing this in 30 days. Yikes. No can do. That's why I chose a year---365 days. Yeah, slow is good for me. Nice and slow. Some of us don't like change. At least that quick anyway, Sheesh.
Doing something like that in 30 days would set me into a major panic attack. Like, "Where'sAllMyStuffThatIDon'tEverLookAt??? I NEED it NOW!!!! NOW!!"----breath, breath, deep breath, breath. Nothing's happening yet. breath.
Anyhoo! Thought I might sign up and at least take the fat-free challenge for 30 days. I can do thirty, right?? (crosses fingers behind back). Doesn't mean I have to be TOTALLY clutterfat free by day 30. Plus it will be good for me. I don't know about the picture thing either. I have mixed emotions about that. I suppose I could take a few and not post them.
I already have the 30 days of Clutterfat song running through my head....four saddles in my living room (its true I do, and I don't have horses anymore either--been thinkin of selling 2 of 'em partner---and I'd get extra points for that too), 3 logs a laying by the fireside, 2 extra rooms with junk (actually only one, since I de(un)clutterd one),and 1 ba-aa-ath room.
and so it goes.

Unclutter... mini update for UC#3.
Unclutter choice #3 (UC#3) is home/life. I cleaned my stove top burners and put in new liners on two burners. I only did it for two because is took 20 minutes to do the two. Not that it was that dirty, I was on the phone while trying to do this. Don't judge. I realize it took longer due to this complication. shush.
I also took a pile of books that were under a my sofa table in the living room (for 5yrs) and finally placed them in my extra bedroom.
Remember take 15 minutes out of your day and unclutter.

Proverbs in a Year...Jan 3.
January 3, already??? Yes, and appropriately this day is the day that Proverbs 1:10-19 gives warning against going along with sinful men. Very wise instruction indeed. Especially since this is the beginning of a new year and we all want a good year. Read for yourself.
As for me I think about a certain nephew who took this path and is currently paying a horrific price for his choices.
Proverbs 1: 10-19
10 My son, if sinful men entice you,
do not give in to them.
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths;
16 for their feet rush into evil,
they are swift to shed blood.
17 How useless to spread a net

Proverbs in a Year...Jan 2.
I really like the following 3 verses in Proverbs. They encourage us to Fear the Lord. That despising wisdom and instruction is a foolish man's game. Its so true isn't it? I know that I personally have had those head slapping moments wishing that I had been a little wiser and should have listed to the instructions better.
Verse 8 informs us to pay attention to our fathers and mothers. So true too. I know when I was a kid I didn't think my parents that smart and then when I was in my twenties, suddenly they were very intelligent. And if you listen to your parents at an early age (and continue to do so) it will certainly help you with making more informed decisions. I think that's what verse 9 is talking about. Possibly the garland to grace your head is your own wisdom, which provides the riches (not necessarily materialistic items) you acquire in your life, which is the hopefully beautiful chain around your neck (possibly the chain is your own true happiness with your life??--maybe).
At this point I must impart that some of us have really questionable parents. I still believe that those types of parents show us wisely (accidentally though it may be) how NOT to be. And if those of us with parents like that would only listen (pay attention), oh the wiser we would be.

Today I begin the study of Proverbs for a Year. I believe its very appropriate considering the improvements and permanent changes that I wish to make in my life.
I would also like to impart who wrote Proverbs. I was given a "Know Your Bible" that has been helpful regarding its source and its only a dollar at your local Christian Bookstore. "Know Your Bible" attributes the main writer to be Solomon - son of King David. There were two possible additional writers and those were Agur and King Lemuel. Throughout the year I will also be giving what information I can find regarding Solomon, Agur and King Lemuel. I think its interesting to know the background about the person you are reading, too.
The main purpose of Proverbs was to provide quick quotes towards encouraging others to pursue wisdom. Or if you don't want to pursue wisdom, consider the book a compilation of practical tips for living.
