Proverbs in a Year...April 26.

Proverbs 14:5-6

5 An honest witness does not deceive,
but a false witness pours out lies.

6 The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none,
but knowledge comes easily to the discerning.

I like both verses today. I think most of us can think of someone, or a situation that applies to each one. I think of our government for the first verse. I think of people I have an acquaintance with for the second. I find people who are mocking, boring. It gets old and even they look old. "knowledge comes easily to the discerning" is quite the statement and places me in deep thought.

these are my Crosswires and I have had trouble from the beginning with knitting this one. I have had a co-worker explain the pattern to me several times, and really, I should know better.

Proverbs 14:1-2

1 The wise woman builds her house,
but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

2 Whoever fears the LORD walks uprightly,
but those who despise him are devious in their ways.

Today begins Chapter 14 of Proverbs. Verse one brings to my mind the feminist movement from the 60s-70s. I find that for my generation we (female gender) have all but emasculated men. Its a shame really because now men really have no clue how they can treat women. One female will be offended if a door is opened for them while another (me) appreciates the gesture. I recently dated a gentleman that would stand up when I left the table and stand up when I came back. WOW!!! I really liked that!!

This morning I had a gentleman open a door for me and we had to go through a second, he was confident enough in himself and to realize that we are all confused, to let me know that he would open the second door we had to pass through if I would let him. I pleasantly and very much appreciatively, let him. I believe in celebrating men too and nice gestures are part of that.

Its interesting that a whole generation of one gender can tear something to pieces when we allow it. Lets build people up (even men) instead of the opposite shall we?

Proverbs 13:24-25

24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children,
but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.

25 The righteous eat to their hearts’ content,
but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.

John Gill Commentary for verse 24. Very sound. Interesting to note that our children believe themselves to be unloved when you do not discipline. Its true and if you have done any additional reading (Dr. Dobson, Gary Smalley, John Trent, John Cloud) you might understand. I like Dr. Dobson's 4 things you should always discipline your children for: 1. lie-ing; 2. being disrespectful; 3. a danger to self; 4. a danger to others. That pretty much covers all the situations you may run into. I especially like the discipline for being disrespectful.

Both verses make me think of a certain nephew, who was spared the rod; now has a hardened heart and has a preference for wrong-doing and is never content. It is very sad. It is now his choice to do right for his life, which has been made all the more difficult for him because of the spared rod.

And these two verses are the end of Chapter 13.

All good verses. I do like John Gills commentary on verse 20. That when you walk with fools you become like them. It seems so to me. Keep clicking forward to read the commentaries for the rest of the verses. It may explain that which I cannot. Good reading. Make wise choices, provide for your family and your future family, help the poor when you can.

I especially like verse 19 today. I believe we all have longings in our soul and when said longing is fulfilled it is very sweet indeed. Yes? I currently have one (actually a couple), and someday I hope for it to be filled, when the time is right and I am ready. I hope whatever yours is that it is a good healthy longing and that it too is fulfilled.

Books...Life is a Verb 37 days to wake up, be mindful and live intentionally.

One of my current reads is 'Life is a Verb 37 Days to Wake Up Be Mindful and Live Intentionally.'

I joined a book club that chose this book as their current read. Chapters 1-3 were the assignment so far. Wow. Just love how this is written. The graphics are great and don't seem to detract from her wonderfully witty writing. At times I found myself giggling while reading and at others just plain laughing out loud. There are assignments to do if you so chose. Each assignment is appropriate to the chapter and usually fun or insightful and always produces thought.

My group has met to discuss these first few chapters and now will take them one chapter at at time. There were some great comments that were insightful, helpful and encouraging. I found myself wanting to stop each person and say wait, "say that again, so I can write it down." I refrained and let the evening ebb and flow. I think we all enjoyed each other and the mentoring that was received and given.

So 'carry your grape' with you---you'll have to read at least the first 3 chapters to know what this comment means.

Book... The Goddesses of Kitchen Avenue.

The Goddesses of Kitchen Avenue was an unusual and interesting read. Its about relationships and second chances. It was surprisingly a little difficult for me to read at first. Only because I could relate too well to several of the women and what was happening in their lives. I was surprised because I thought I had worked through my issues regarding these circumstances. I supposes sometimes we take steps back so that we can move forward. To be healed. To be more complete.

I like how this book is written as each chapter is dedicated to one woman and what is happening in her life with a quick appropriate quote at each beginning. It was a quick read once I acknowledged my own pain and let it flow and gently ebb from me. I also enjoyed the geographical area where this book takes place as its a place I have lived and have family. Its fun to recognize the landmarks that she mentions in her book. I know exactly where Joe had his accident. From my understanding, that area of I-25 is the most treacherous stretch in its entirety of the Interstate and only recently was changed from 50 mph to a little higher (recent to me is the past 20 yrs-btw).

I find myself thinking today, "oh, Lord why have you forsaken me???" and I know that instead its the other way, isn't it? I have forsaken Him. My pride is in the way. I look forward to advice given to me by someone wise. I hope its soon. I hope I listen. I hope my pride falls away.

Be wise in those you keep around you. I hope their advice is wise and that you are able to listen.

I am FED UP!!!...this is a rant.

Riddle me this....

Why do people think, feel that life has to be fast, furious, quick and easy for life to be good???

Do you absolutely have to drive like a "bat out of hell" to get where you are going???? and complain the whole time about the other drivers and then do exactly what you were just complaining about to someone else on the road????

Do you really have to be an idiot like that???

Do you really have to watch television while eating dinner??? Do you really have to be on the phone or texting???

Do you have to laugh and poke fun at others in your high-handed manner, yet, when the same is done to you, you are offended??? Do you have to be so high and mighty that you cannot even laugh at yourself?

Do you really have to have a perfect life???

Seriously, people. Take a deep breath, slow down; be kind, compassionate and generous.

It's really not that much more difficult than being mean and rude. Its actually better.

Unclutter update...cleaning my room...

except I get distracted by the cool stuff I find.

I cleaned my dresser top. I did take photos but lost my computer connector so will post those later. It took 1 and 1/2 hours to complete and I am exhausted. It was very emotional for me as I go through each item (look, feel, touch, remember) and this is one reason that I have not completed this uncluttering. I was hoping to get to these things once a week. I, unfortunately have left it alone since January. Its done now. It may look a little cluttered still to some, but what is left is all of my favorite things and very special items. Yeah me.

The special items kept include:
4 jewelry boxes - one large, 3 small
1 photo of my grandmother when she was three
1 music box given to me by my brother G.
2 medicine bags given to me by a very special full-blooded Cherokee Indian friend of mine
1 wish box made by same friend above.
-several (4) small wooden boxes that have a horse motif (I just adore horses) on them given to me by various wonderful people
-various jewelry items that I wear on a consistent basis
-DD bronzed baby shoes---I tried to remove these but couldn't
-perfume bottle that I wear daily

I ran into many surprising items and other items that were removed and placed in an appropriate place. I found several bracelets that had gotten lost in the "piling" of items and I can now find and wear them. I still have a box of items that I need to go through and place or toss. I even had a "burning" in my fireplace of HWSNBN (he who shall not be named) cards given to me. It was a nice touching ritual that brought additional closure I needed.

Next up the mirrored dresser. ugh. Hopefully I get to it sooner than I have been. We'll see.

John Gill's comentary on verse 7. Well worth reading. Makes you think. Its kinda like one of those "ouch that hurts" thinking, as in oops, I think that's me he's talking about. If you can actually see this, then that means growth for you and that's always a good thing even if it doesn't feel like it at the time.

Introducing Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...who???

uuuhh...who??? you ask??? Yep. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Bela has won more Grammy's in different categories than anyone. Why is that? Because he plays every kind of music that you can imagine (or not). Blue grass, country, new age, jingles, rock, classic rock, classical, etc. If you can make it up he plays it. I would classify it "underground" because there is no placing the man in any category. He is the best banjo player ever. This group was amazing to see live and I enjoyed it a lot.

You would recognize the music just not the name, several tunes of his are very popular.

Fine Dining...Its an art form at the Blue Star...part 2

Ooops was that me a week ago stating that I don't do this very often. Caught by my own words, as here I am again having another fun meal at the Blue Star. I promise this won't be happening anytime soon again (crosses fingers).

I attended the Seven of Hearts Winemaker Dinner with Byron Dooley. It was wonderful to listen to him passionately speak about the different wines he makes. The chef was excited about pairing the food he made and an artist himself. I really admire people who have a passion about the work they do. Its inspiring.

It was a five course dinner paired with wine.

First Course: (sorry forgot to take a picture--my bad)
wine: 2010 Chatte d'Avignon Viognier / Roussanne
food: shrimp cocktail, pineapple dashi & sushi rice timbal

The wine was very refreshing and reminded me of summer. It had the bouquet of the viognier and the roussanne grape made this wine taste more like a suavignon blanc. It was very lemony tasting. Good and a great summer wine. I could see myself sitting outside on the porch sipping it with bites of fruit and cheese.

The food was a wonderful rice mixture of pineapple, avocado, cucumbers topped with a large fileted shrimp. Delish.

Second Course:
wine: 2009 Chardonnay, Crawford Beck Vineyard
food: cider brined roasted pork loin, sweet potato hash & apple brown butter.

The wine reminded me of an orange muscat as it was slightly sweet to taste with a bouquet of orange and chocolate. It was good and also I had thoughts of summer for this one too.

The pork was tender and moist the potato hash a lovely soft sweet taste and the the apple brown butter was a yummy sauce topping--not too sweet, just right. Chef admitted that this is more a fall meal but he said this was his first thought to make with this wine and he went with it and he encouraged us to "go with it" too.

Third Course:
wine: 2009 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
food: duck spring roll, bramble duck sauce & sesame scented soba salad.

I learned something new for this type of wine in that for Pinot Noir --- COLOUR DOES NOT MATTER--- and the vintner even had us all repeat this after he said it. It was fun. The colour to this wine was very light and pink. It did have body to it and tasted like spring (fooled you --bet you thought I would write summer). I usually do not care for Pinot Noir as they taste like Kool-Aid to me, no body, no substance. This one had a nice taste to it and would pair really well with fish in my opine. It was not my favorite wine of the evening and one that I cannot imagine purchasing. I personally don't care for Pinot myself--as I stated before I feel they have no body to them. I will admit Pinot does have its instances when it is the best wine to drink for certain food.

The duck held up well and may have been a little too powerful for this Pinot Noir and was very well presented and tasted exquisite.

Fourth Course:
wine: 2009 Chatte d'Avignon Grenache
food: wild boar sausage, charred tomato & Asiago mushroom polenta

I like Grenache, so I liked this wine. It was full-bodied and paired well with the boar.

The wild boar was a bit gamey tasting and I didn't care for it. I gave mine away. Keep in mind a boar is a bottom feeder and if wild, even more so, hence the unusual taste. The tomato and mushroom polenta was delish and paired well with the boar.

Fifth Course:
wine: 2009 Luminous Hills Estate Grown Pinot Noir
food: Phyllo wrapped walnut Gourmandise & cherry, basil, ginger chutney

When you see the word Estate on a wine, think pricey. It means something about it is special. For this one the vintner stated that he had specific requirements be met for these vines. When they are pruned, watered and harvested. It is all a very intense process and he charges a little more for this wine. Although his price is still reasonable at $24.99 per bottle. This wine is again a Pinot Noir --think to yourself "colour does not matter." It should be a nice consistent pink throughout the wine glass. It was lovely and had a nice smooth taste to it. It complemented the dessert very well even though it was not a dessert wine, as dessert wines go (usually very sweet). Personally, I prefer non-sweet anyway.

Speaking of dessert, it was cream cheese that was both delicious and carmel-like tasting. The basil was a terrific add-on and did not overpower the sweet smooth cream cheese and the ginger chutney added the sweet taste.

My favorite food for the evening was the cider brined roasted pork loin, sweet potato hash and & apple brown butter. It just needed the Grenache or the Estate Pinot Noir to be paired with it.

The wines...well I don't really care for Pinot, but I did like the Estate Pinot, I liked the Grenache too. I could see myself drinking the blended Viognier and the Chardonnay in the summer shade on a hot day, but not too often and only once for fun. They were a little too lemony on the Viognier and too sweet on the Chardonnay for me personally but fun to drink once in awhile.

Book...Catching Fire.

Ok I'm caught.

Just finished the second book in this trilogy. Really well done. It doesn't read as fast as the first and there is more character development. The Games are not as brutal between the players as much as it is with the Capitol. Some twists and turns that were unexpected happened and I was pleased that I was unable to guess them.

Can't wait to get my hands on the 3rd book - Mockingjay to read.

Proverbs 12:26

26 The righteous choose their friends carefully,
but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

I always think of a certain someone whom I know that is paying for his ways when I read things like the above verse.

I have been saved from issues with people as I don't have that many friends. I have a problem with human beings as, well... they are people and people are, well...people. They really make me cringe.

I hope for you that you make wise choices including the people with whom you are friends.

Easter Monday...What the heck????

I am offended. Sheesh. I have never, ever heard of this and I am offended. If you want to take the day off, take it off but don't make God your excuse and besides God despises a person who is lazy.

I am not saying in anyway that if you take the day off from work that you are lazy, just please don't put a lousy meaningless excuse to have a day off onto God. Take the day off, you don't need a holiday for it nor do you need to make Easter more meaningless than it already is in society.

Easter is not on Monday and never has been on Monday. Get over it. Call me what you like. Just take the day off and quit needing an excuse to not go in to work or to have holiday pay when you do work. Really, its just a regular Monday.

Fine dinning...Its an art form at the Blue Star.

The food brought to you today is from the Blue Star restaurant. They really know how to cook and pair some delightful wines with the food too.

We begin with:
-deep fried avocadoes (yep, its true they were deep fried)(are your arteries hardening yet??) stuffed with cream cheese as an appetizer. yummeee, I only took a tiny bite of this since I try to be gluten free as much as possible.

-for a main entree Steak Diane with asparagus - yes, diane means your steak will be cooked rare. Not a choice I would make these days unless I grow my own due to the lack of border control enforcement for animals that may be infected coming from Old Mexico or Canada. If your meat is thoroughly cooked through you eliminate this possibility. Yeah for well-done.

-for my main entree I had Cauliflower steak. Yes, this is exactly what it means the head of cauliflower is cut and cooked exactly the way you would a steak and looks like it too except its a vegetable and oh, so yummy on a bed of lemon garlic butter spinach, mushrooms and quinoa. Deee--eelish. Isn't the presentation pretty?

For desert we had Baklava topped with plain yogurt(none for me, sigh) and I had the yummy creme brule and a nice port to pair with them.

A lovely delicious meal. Of course there is a lovely price tag with it too so I don't do this type of meal very often.

I always feel better when someone has been kind towards me, don't you? I have to remind myself to say things in a positive manner rather than negative. My best example is when I want to remind someone to remember something. Instead of saying "don't forget" I try to say "remember to."

Spread a little kindness around today, it really does go a long way.

I love the above verse. I think its so true. I see my DD's generation not wanting to work and who want all their bills paid by someone else. Little do they realize that when you do this you will end with tyranny for your government and be forced to labor at work that you don't enjoy or choose for yourself. Best to choose something you like or want and do it diligently.

I'm a Foodie, yes I am...

Hello,
Today's wonderful food picture is brought to you by Fiesta Mexicana Family Restaurant in Woodland Park and they know how to cook it the right way.

I love Mexican food. Its yummy. Currently I have been trying the mole in each Mexican restaurant to find the best one. The last chicken mole I had was at A.F. in Manitou Springs and it was disappointing. Lots of msg and nothing made on site. It all tasted like it was made from a can. disappointing.

Fiesta Mexicana has done their Chicken Mole Enchiladas the right way. Oh boy, was it yummy. It all tasted as though the food was made on site and no metal taste (not sure if this is the case --boy I hope so). I like this restaurant.

Now if only their margarita wasn't made from a mix they'd have something. I've become something of a margarita snob lately. And tequila isn't tequila unless its made in Old Mexico, ya know. How to write a third party check...

I went to the bank yesterday to deposit a check that DD signed over to me. It has been awhile since I have tried to deposit a third party check. It used to be that person sign the check and then you sign your name under that person. Easy, peasy right?

wrong...

Little did I know that the person must sign it and then write in their handwriting "pay to the order of--insert 3rd party name" and then the 3rd party signs it. I went online and googled this and no where not one place does it give these specific directions. Sheesh.

this post gives a good explanation regarding the different types of endorsements. I think the teller was wrong and was just being a pill. What I had is a blank endorsement and the "pay to the order" is a special or specific endorsement.

But whatever I just had the teller deposit into DD account, which was best anyway.

Today someone at work called me a dumb ass, which I really wouldn't mind if the name was earned. I do mind when its over something so simple and easily fixable in about 2 seconds and not earned. Too bad this person happens to be the Boss' fav.

I let the Boss know anyway as he is a fair minded man even with favorites. I like that. It is only human to have favs whether we want to admit to them or not is another issue. I also informed Boss that I am certain Potty Mouthe will have additional complaints against me since I have this one and I informed Boss what they were with an explanation and why they exist. Boss appreciates it as usually he then only has to go over the babysitting once.

Here's hoping that we are all wise with our words.

Unclutter...debt reduction update.

I am so, so so very excited!!! I received my tax refund and put the whole thing on my debt and I am now more than half way paid off and its only April!! Its amazing how much my attitude has changed since making this decision, putting it into action and seeing actual results!!! Thank you Be More With Less blog and Dave Ramsey.

Its also interesting that it actually feels as though I have more money. Ah, well mine is not to question why---just to keep it that way. NO MORE DEBT! I am looking forward to December this year. I am also looking around my household to see what I can sell to place more money on the debt. Love, Love getting this monkey off my back.

side note: I have not lost the weight that is mentioned in Dave's book that is a side effect for some people who implement this decision. sigh. Will have to tackle that issue a different way.

Proverbs 12:15-17

15 The way of fools seems right to them,

but the prudent overlook an insult.

I like verse 16 the best today. I constantly see people showing their annoyance with others. I try to envision that maybe I do not see the whole picture or understand what I may not be seeing in the background with others. I don't always get it and I too, can sometimes be too quick to show annoyance and I feel foolish after. Thank goodness there is grace.

Knitting...Tara socks.

Finished these socks yesterday. Love the Fleegle heel. Love the colours. I Kool-Aid dyed these. Sad that you cannot see all the lovely twisted stitches. All that work, and you can't see it. sigh. This sock looks much better in a solid light colour so the mock cabling stitches show up.

I do love how those colours pooled.

I especially like verse 14 today. Can you guess why??? I am so very excited about year two of my garden. I can attest that it certainly has been rewarding and I look forward to this year too.

Adventures of the Garden Goddess...year2.

Hellooo...here's a photo of the before for the rest of my garden plot. Its going to be in the same area. I hope to get to it on the weekend as we have snow today. Yes, I did write snow. It does look exhausting and a bit overwhelming to me. So I keep telling myself to do one tiny bit at a time.

I'm thinking of switching it up a bit and moving the tomatoes close to those wild onions and have the lettuce near the strawberries this year. What do you think?? I keep thinking...is that companion planting??? or am I going totally wild for year two???

One day I hope the strawberries take over the whole area and I'll move the garden plot to the back. The only thing is, since putting this on my parking in the front its really brought the neighborhood closer. Its quite the talk of the neighborhood block and several others that walk in the area are launching into their own experience with gardening too.

Who knew that such a tiny action would create a huge influence? I love it.

Adventures of the Garden Goddess 2012...year 2.

Spring is here!

It has been sometime since posting about gardening. Is everybody ready???

For this past weekend I weeded the strawberry patch and took out last years tomatoes and squash plants on half of my garden area. The strawberries now actually look like strawberries. Yeah for me. I am now exhausted. I hope to get to the rest of the gardening area this week. The picture is the after taking out all the crab grass.

I also have a sister fence post to put in and have been researching how to do that for about 2-3 weeks. Just thinking about it is exhausting, especially since I haven't networked well enough to get help, which is what I truly need. Where's the handy boyfriend when you need him, eh?? (out to lunch with somebody else---but that's another story----never mind).

I realize that most folks prepare the garden for next year at the end of last year but truly I was so very exhausted and was unable to get this done. Instead I went to Hawaii. Ha, I know life is hard and by the time I got back it was too cold and the ground too hard. Besides speaking with other gardeners some actually have a preference to leave last years stuff on until now. In their opinion it provides nutrients too and catch more snow, if it would ever snow that is. Truly I was exhausted and not just from playing. The playing was fun.

In no time at all I'll soon be happily planting my cold weather plants (crosses fingers).

but those who chase fantasies have no sense.

Last summer was my first summer in growing my own food and even tho sometimes you read that it may be more expensive it really seemed as if I had more food and it cost less. I am preparing the garden for this summer again.

Oh, how I think about Mr. X and how he constantly chases fantasies. He wastes more time, money (mostly other people's money) and energy doing this. I unfortunately seem to have a child that may be of the same unfortunate mind set. It really is a shame because both people are so very, very talented and have no interest in the talents that they do possess.

This is so true. You can always tell how kind a person is by the way they treat their animals. I have a cat that is very skinny and the neighbor came over yesterday and commented how skinny she is. Unknown to her, the cat always, always has food available to her and she has additional very soft food given to her. She is just a very picky eater. Plus she only has two teeth and its not easy for her to eat. Plus she only likes a certain dry food which I hate to give her but its the only think she'll usually eat.
