Books I'm reading... The Age of Ice.

The Age of Ice - well structured sentences. Its slow moving. love the twist of fate she puts the main character in. Not an easy book to read and you almost need a college degree (which thank God I have one) to get through it. I am half way and feeling the need to skip to the end so my life can move forward.

Books that I'm reading...Five Star Billionaire.

Five Star Billionaire - and interesting read. A little slow. I like how it takes a couple of chapters for each character and then moves to the next character. That's what kept the book moving. I had to cheat and read to the end because I had to return it to the library, plus it was getting a little tedious and to my surprise (SPOILER ALERT) I guessed that the Billionaire was sadly a fake and took everyone for their money. I liked the setting of Shanghai (so apropos). It was nice to learn about the culture. Just goes to show that corrupt people are everywhere in the world, just rolling the cons a different way.

the following is a disjointed lament and I don't expect you to understand it or follow (but you won't need a college degree to read it):
-If you see something that's too good to be true...it is.
-Don't do it.
-There is no get rich quick way, and lots of con artists are out there ready to remove you from your money.
-you do too have sucker written on your forehead...we all do.
-Hard work and sweat of your own are best.
-Even the bible says to work hard everyday and not be a sluggard. (eek---not another one of those Bible thumpers???---eek, eek)

Movies, movies, movies and more additional movies...

Valentines Day (2010)- love this one. its terrific when Jennifer Garner comes in and totally smashes the heart pinata to pieces. worth a rewind and watching over and over again. ha This is a no brainer comedic movie and just cute with a coolio all-star cast. possible purchase for the DVD library just for the light-hearted feeling it provides.

One for the Money (2012)- this movie is based on the Janet Evanovich book series. Love the book series. This movie is light comedy and light drama. Again a no brainer and fun to watch. Is it a great movie??? no. but its silly and its entertaining.

Water for Elephants (2011) - loved this movie. I loved the time period for the seting of this movie -- 1930s. Worth watching and a good solid cast. This movie shows the good and bad in people and the stark reality of the Depression Era in the USA and how if we stick together we can overcome. Well done and possible purchase for the DVD library.

W.E. (2011) - very interesting take on a subject that's been done again and again. Worth watching. you need to pay attention while watching as it does flashbacks and then returns to present time with a woman who is fascinated by Wally Simpson and King Edward VIII. Madonna co-wrote and directed this film. I think she obtained a well-done final product. well worth viewing and possible purchase for the DVD library.

Elizabeth the Golden Age (2007) - great cast and well acted. Worth viewing. loved all the costumes, a designers paradise.


Guess what I did...I got more movies from my local library. such fun.

its unbelievable how hard it is to post this Proverbs in a Year. Its like I have a huge weight on me. I hope I don't get discouraged. I must keep going and finish as now its personal as I hate quitters and that's what I've been.

Movies, movies and more movies....

I've been doing movie marathons lately by using my library's collection instead of purchasing movies I'll only see one time or dislike.

The following are what I watched over my own 3-day weekend.

Bullhead (2012)- a foreign film by Michael R. Roskam - a foreign film nominee for the Academy Awards 2012. Stunning is absolutely the word for this film. I would also go with tragic and ironic turns of events that so often happen in life that would be unbelievable if not for the actual event happening. This movie is a worthwhile view, be warned its a bit depressing as it deals with some stark realities in life.

Hope Springs (2012)- I would describe this movie as "a coming of age story," for those of us heading into our "golden age." Learning about ourselves and learning that growing old can be enjoyable too. Sweet story a little boring but a no brainer.

The Artist (2011)- This is the second time I've seen this movie and this one would be one to purchase for your movie collection. I love how it is a silent film movie made in 2011. Its a fun take on film presentation of similar plot of great actor falling to the wayside. side note: (love her bag when they stopped to quickly "speak" to each other on the stairs).

My Best Friend (1999) - an independent film by Werner Herzog. This is an interesting film about the late actor, Klaus Kinski (died 1991), and Warner Herzog and their volatile friendship. Some of the stories are almost unbelievable if they hadn't actually happened. I suppose this is the case of our imaginations could never imagine some of the starkest truths.

The Arbor (2010)- an independent documentary by Clio Barnard. This was an amazing documentary about the late Great Britain playwrite, Andrea Dunbar, and her family. How life influenced her and her family, good and bad, and presented with a twist. An Estate in the UK is what would be considered the projects here in the USA. Very interesting and very somber, very sad. The actors in the film mouthed the words of actual family members except when Andrea's play was being acted out. Of major interesting note: the play portion was acted out at the Estate in an open field. I thought this film was very well written and kept my interest. It reminded me of the documentary, later film, Grey Gardens only this was about people in hard times from the beginning.

Wendy & Lucy (2008) - an independent film by Kelly Reichardt. This was a slow moving interesting film regarding when does society have an obligation to help people out or should we mind our own business and stay out of the way. This film travels with a young woman and how she is hindered by others and by the choices she makes. She is traveling from Indiana to Alaska and has some tough decisions to make.

---yes, Mr. X would constantly inform me thusly as he's telling our young daughter what a mean mommy I am. It was deadly.
I hope you don't have people who are close to you doing this, its very frustrating as these types of people will never see their own lies. You must discern and make a stand.

---but where is the fine line regarding those whom we should help??? I suppose this would be the great art of discernment regarding when to make a stand. Do you make a stand for everything or nothing? good question.

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; his is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. The sluggard is wise in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly.

---sadly the above verses remind me of my own darling daughter and her infamous father (Mr.X). I cringe and it physically sickens me reading these verses for them as this is exactly how they act and so interesting and tragically sad they are blind to their own actions (or in-actions would be a better word), which do greatly harm others. Its very sad and I cannot stand to hear their excuses, its like scratching nails on a a chalkboard for me.

Proverbs 26:9-12
Like a thornbush in a drunkard's hand is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. Like an archer who wounds at random is he who hires a fool or any passer-by. As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

--love the dog/vomit verse. All verses a harsh reality and so true.

Proverbs 26:6-8
Like cutting off one's feet or drinking violence is the sending of a message by the hand of a fool. Like a lame man's legs that hang limp is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. Like tying a stone in a sling is the giving of honor to a fool.

Interesting isn't it. That such concentration and encouragement is given to us to avidly avoid being foolish. It's the author's continuous lament to us in this book. And the writer seems to be stating that being foolish is a sin or sinful or certainly one of the worst choices in life that one can make. I whole-heatedly agree. It's too bad that at times I, myself, so easily fall into being a fool. Oh, Lord Your God, give me wisdom and grace to discern this quickly so the pain of being a fool isn't as languishing in my life? Amen and thank you in advance.

I found my own answer to my lament: 1 Timothy 5:24,25 - read on - The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgement ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.

Proverbs 25:25-27
Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land. Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who give way to the wicked. It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.

-I see less and less honor today. Sometimes it seems that the only honor left is your own.
-I wonder how many verses reference honey in them? (just wondering)

One new thing I decided to try was to actually type the verses that I post. I thought it might help regarding posting and understanding. Now, I'm not so certain. but I'm still typing.

Proverbs 25:20-22
Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on soda, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

Skip the following unless you want to read my lamenting:
Yesterday's (Oct 17) and today's verses remind me of my neighbors, in that they are "Christian" and yet they are judgmental and negative and make fun of the others in the neighborhood and yet, they are the one's invited to the neighbor's homes for a meal. They are the one's who are thought of so highly. How can this be? Here I am defending the others in a positive way and am ignored and uninvited. I find it ironic that I am tired and weary (both mentally and physically) and these "Christians" do not promote helping their neighbor out at all unless you meet a certain criteria. I am tired and I am weary, Oh Lord Your God, hear my cry. Why am I forsaken? Why do you ignore me? Please send me compassion, kindness, generosity and strength as I have none left and I am just a foolish old woman.
