Proverbs in a Year...Sept 7.

Proverbs 22:24-25

Saying 3

24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person,
do not associate with one easily angered,
25 or you may learn their ways
and get yourself ensnared.

I see the wisdom in keeping ones temper in check and it has saved me much aggravation.

Proverbs in a Year...Sept 6.

Proverbs 22:22-23

Saying 2

22 Do not exploit the poor because they are poor
and do not crush the needy in court,
23 for the Lord will take up their case
and will exact life for life.

Yeah, I wish verse 23 would work for me and my case with Mr. X. When will this happen, Oh - Our Lord Your God, hmmm???? Feelin' a little anger here, sheesh. I guess since every endeavor Mr. X, does try seems to fail --- I bet if he paid me what he owed with regards to child support he would then have success. Interesting concept, I won't hold my breath.

Thirty Sayings of the Wise
Saying 1 - contd

20 Have I not written thirty sayings for you,
sayings of counsel and knowledge,
21 teaching you to be honest and to speak the truth,
so that you bring back truthful reports
to those you serve?

Proverbs 22:17-19

Next comes the Thirty Sayings of the Wise, as BibleGateway.com lists them.

Pay attention!!

Thirty Sayings of the Wise
Saying 1
17 Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise;
apply your heart to what I teach,
18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.
19 So that your trust may be in the Lord,
I teach you today, even you.

I like John Gill's commentary regarding verse 17. It gives an explanation on how Proverbs is split out.

Proverbs 22:16

16 One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth
and one who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty.

Interesting verse. Think about it.

Proverbs 22:15

15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.

BTW-Folly is not a good thing. Just in case you weren't certain about that.

I do like John Gill's commentary on this verse.

Proverbs in a Year...Sept 1.

Proverbs 22:14

14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit;
a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it.

I always get my back up when women are to blame for men's bad choices and it seems that this verse may allude to this perception.

After reading John Gill's commentary what this may be saying is that a man who is already making bad choices and in the "pit" gets to fall deeper into the pit by following an adulterous woman. Let's face it there are bad people out there and they are both men and women. Thus the "bad" man hangs out with a "bad" woman and just continues deeper into the pit. His choice and her choice.
