About last night...

At times when going to bed, it brings dread to me as I am a very light sleeper. I try to have my humidifier going so it provides some white noise. It is a "whisper quiet" humidifier because even its noise keeps me awake. Its better to hear it than all the obnoxious people and animals in the neighborhood and now with it being warmer weather my windows are open. "The better to hear everyone and everything, my dears." UGh.

And that's what I miss most about my rural life----it was so amazingly quiet---it was lovely.

The neighbor across the street and three houses down has a whiny, barky dog and said neighbor has now began to leave obnoxious dog outside now that its nice. Unfortunately the neighbor has not taught his dog to only bark when their is something to bark at.

The dog started barking about 1:30am. I finally got up at 2am as the dog barking was making my dog nervous and she wanted out to see what all the ruckus was about and the noise was also giving me a headache and if I didn't do something soon it would turn into a migraine. I decided to speak to the owner and kindly ask them to put the dog in and that's when I found out that the owner was absent. On the way over I was wondering how to handle my situation and decided that even with the headache I now had from the dog barking I could speak to it and the owner kindly. I was actually recalling verses from my Proverbs in a Year that I recently posted.

I told the dog it was a good dog and for it to quiet down. It did a little. The tone in the barking changed slightly and yet it still persisted barking. Geez, the neighbors next door are certainly sound sleepers indeed.

I kept wondering what to do. And then it hit me, the dog is barking because it is afraid to be alone and is bored. I got a milk bone and went back over and gave it to the dog. Viola. no more barking till it was done with the bone and then it barked for a bit and stopped. It just needed the knowledge that it wasn't alone and that someone cared and it settled down and was finally quiet. The owner never came home.

Please remember to bring your barky dog inside even in the warmer weather. Thank you.
